F***ing tights! Are there ANY tights which actually flatter?!

......or at the very least, don't give you a hideous muffin top?

I'm a reasonably slim, size 10, but for some reason, it doesn't matter what kind of tights I buy, I always end up looking wrong. I've recently bought a couple of day dresses, which I love, but as soon as I put my tights on, I have this horrible silhouette. Shapeless and bumpy. Also, I'm constantly hiking them up and folding them over at the top, in the vain hope I'll get rid of the dreaded muffin top. It works for about 10 seconds Angry

Whenever I've tried the control top ones, or similar, all that happens is it's all pushed up and you just end up with a really high muffin top, as apposed to a low one Confused so problem really not solved!

So, do flattering tights really exist? If so, please point me in the right direction.

Thank you!

Tesco tights are surprisingly good. I am wearing some thick ribbed ones and they look great. Quite long in the body part so no muffin top Grin

suspiciousmind29 · 11/11/2013 13:15

One thank you Smile Shall have a look. Do you do the folding over at the top trick too? Or am I alone in this? Grin

I get tights in the largest size for comfort factor on the waist and also if denier tights & I catch them they don't ladder as quick as not under tension.

OneLittleLady · 11/11/2013 13:18

I fold if the body part is huge (i'm only 5ft) but I don't need to do it in the tesco tights, they are a really good fit. The ones I've got on right now have bamboo in them and they are flattering, comfy and warm.

suspiciousmind29 · 11/11/2013 13:29

big, ah ok. Will bear that in mind.

One cool. Shall definitely be paying a visit to Tesco later.

Size up. I buy Large or sometimes even XL and am only a size 12. I like to be able to pull them right up like Simon Cowell Grin.

Also like Tesco wool and cable knit tights.

suspiciousmind29 · 11/11/2013 15:50

Robin, really? XL?! Do they not go really baggy and a bit nora batty?Grin

GobblersAnyKnobFucker · 11/11/2013 16:04

Agree size up all the way, I am 5'10" and and a 12 and also buy XL or L, or jut the biggest size they make, I have lots of H&M tights in a 20-22 Grin

They are never baggy (remember how stretchy tights are), and they never roll down or slip or try to escape at the crotch.

FracturedViewOfLife · 11/11/2013 16:28

I buy the biggest too and second Tesco tights. In fact most supermarket tights I have tried have been good.

Atari · 11/11/2013 16:31

Yes, you need a bigger size.

I find properly fitting tights quite flattering and good for smoothing bumps. Like Spanx lite!

EldritchCleavage · 11/11/2013 16:33

Go up a size and buy posh, like Wolford or Calvin Kein. I've had opaques from both of those that cost £££ but lasted for years and years, so worth it.

AnythingNotEverything · 11/11/2013 16:35

I love M&S control tights - the ones with panels for the bum, tummy and thighs, but yes, you have to buy them big enough!

Have you tried hold ups? I have friends who swear by them.

MacaYoniandCheese · 11/11/2013 16:39

Spanx 'Tight End, Two-Timin' reversible tights (sic) are the only tights I buy. They are FAB. Worth every penny (they reverse black to brown too, for extra value). Available on MyTights.com.

CooEeeEldridge · 11/11/2013 16:45

I'm 5'7 and a 10, always buy XL! New look 120 denier are pretty good, debenhams do lovely fancy 15denier ones but I inevitably but a finger through those what attempting to get them on Sad

CooEeeEldridge · 11/11/2013 16:46

Also the old pants on top trip (and under too still obviously!) keeps them up a treat!

suspiciousmind29 · 11/11/2013 16:47

Thanks everyone. So I'm definitely going to be going up a size or two, but Gobblers, size 22!! Grin really?!

Anything, I find hold ups to be more fall downs. I would wear them with a suspender belt, but that has the same lumpy bumpy affect.

Primark high waisted with tummy control are fab !

kaumana · 11/11/2013 23:42

Yep, you have to go big or waddle home...

suspiciousmind29 · 13/11/2013 09:34

Well I went in to Tesco yesterday and forgot just how many styles they actually have. Very impressive actually.

However, I usually go for s/m, so I went for medium, but I kept remembering what everyone on here said about going up at least 2 sizes, but I played it safe.....................unfortunately.

Got them home and I had exactly the same problem Angry I kept telling myself to get the large, but on the back it said it was a 20/22 and I thought that was ridiculous! Evidently not.

Can I ask, where does everyone wear them? As in, do most of you do the Simon Cowell as one of you ladies already confessed?Confused I tried that, but didn't look good.

Gingersnap88 · 13/11/2013 11:02

I love m&s tights, they have a wider waistband now so don't dig in. I also buy the size up (knickers too) and it does wonders!

havingamoment · 13/11/2013 11:06

Everyone who says size up is right. I'm size14 5ft7 and I always go for extra large. And def try the old knickers over the top. I do primark vpl knickers over the top of tights and they are brill.

springthorn · 13/11/2013 11:51

I'm size 14 and 5ft 5 and only yesterday I bought XL tights from M&S. Got them home and thought to myself: how on earth are these mean to be XL, they're tiny, and what size tights are genuine plus sized women meant to wear???!

suspiciousmind29 · 13/11/2013 11:57

having "the old knickers over the top"?! Grin Seriously? I've not heard of this! Made me laugh cos I'm currently trying to put together a superhero outfit for my DD for children in need and I was thinking she could put pants over the top of her leggings Grin Maybe if I try this, she'll think I'm secretly a rl superhero Hmm Seriously though, does that really work?

Thanks for recommending the bamboo tights - I've been looking for dark brown knitted tights for ages! I order some online and picked them up today - they are perfect!
