Why do models scowl?

Fed up seeing these pampered women scowling at the camera. Male models do the same. Just ruins the fashion pictures for me. Used to enjoy some of the womens magazines but not any more as they are full of more scowling models. Why don't they lighten up a bit? Bad enough to have years of austerity without these scowling models making the scene even more excruciating.

Models are very well paid to do exactly as they are told to by the photographer or shoot director.
