Lace dresses - are they O.V.E.R.?

l fancy a new Christmas party dress, and have speculatively ordered this from Mango. But I'm a bit worried that lace dresses have "had their day".

Problem is, I really need a bit of sleeveage and there's not a lot else out there.

The link didn't work for me, just took me to the Mango front page.

If you like it and it looks good on you then wear it.

Trills · 10/11/2013 18:22

If you go to the page of the dress, right-click on the picture and choose "copy image URL" that might help

I don't know why some clothes websites are so shit for linking. Don't they know that we want to DISCUSS?

BetsyBell · 10/11/2013 18:24

Pretty!

MrsNoodleHead · 10/11/2013 18:24

Thery are a bit ubiquitous I'm afraid. I might wear something with lace accents but not an all over lace style.

Trills · 10/11/2013 18:30

Weirdly the link works now!

I like it, but it looks SHORT.

lurkingaround · 10/11/2013 18:50

Like NoodleHead I think lace dresses are everywhere and that makes me like them a little less somehow. Maybe that's just me. And it does look short.
What about a lace skirt and a top/sweater/cardigan?

BunnyLebowski · 10/11/2013 18:54

They'll never be over for me but that's because I wear vintage 50's lace dresses and good vintage inspired ones rather than the generic boring ones that are all over the place now.

CointreauVersial · 10/11/2013 20:35

It does look short-ish but they usually use Amazonian models. And it's modest up top. I have fairly good legs, though.

I kind of wish it wasn't black either......oh well, it's cheap, so fingers crossed it works.

I was going to say yes but that's really pretty!

Financeprincess · 10/11/2013 20:58

I find the long sleeved lace shift dresses a bit dull, frankly. They look a bit half-arsed, like a uniform for women who want to look dressed up but don't have much confidence.

LadyMay26 · 10/11/2013 21:01

I love lace... I think it's really pretty. I have a lace dress and love it.... ??

CointreauVersial · 10/11/2013 23:31

Aah, you got me, Financeprincess. Grin

I like it...I think you'll feel good in it. Covered up top but can get your pins out...I like the sleeves. It's a yay from me!

ConfusedDotty · 11/11/2013 08:17

I like it. Go for it. I didn't realise Mango did size 6. Does anyone know how thier sizes measure up? I am normally a size 4 but I really like this dress.

mogontheblock · 11/11/2013 09:19

Very elegant, really love it! I don't think they've had their day, classic, stylish elegance lasts forever :-) long sleeves very pretty & dresses usually look short on the models as their 7 foot tall! Go for it lady!

isitme1 · 11/11/2013 09:22

Will check the link.
Lace dresses are still in imo.
On the h&m website on thr full site not mobile they have a nice lace dress for 7.99!!

isitme1 · 11/11/2013 09:24

Confused, their sizes are really generous.

JuneauWhoIAm · 11/11/2013 13:15

Cointreau , the dress is nice enough but be prepared to see loads more of them.

I was out with a load of women the other night and there was lots of lace.
One of them had an almost identical dress to the one you linked but she got it in Pennys/ Primark. The sleeves may have been shorter.

bigTillyMint · 11/11/2013 14:54

It looks lovely, CV, but sooooo short! You have good legs, so go for it!

Pinupgirl · 11/11/2013 18:03

I like them but prefer a vintage style one-ie a full skirt. Deadly is the female have a lovely one with 3/4 sleeves for about £50.

CointreauVersial · 15/11/2013 13:04

Update - my Mango dress arrived. It's gorgeous lace, not at all nylon-y, and the length is absolutely fine.

The only thing I'm not sure about are the sleeves, which are a bit puffy at the top. And the whole "is lace over?" thing, of course!

I shall model for DH then ignore his input and make my own mind up before making a decision.

CV I bet you will look gorgeous in itSmile

MissBeehiving · 15/11/2013 16:36

I think that they're classic as BunLeB says. I have a beautiful navy lace below the knee pencil skirt that I wear for work.
