Night Out - help!

I am going to stay with a rather trendy colleague next weekend in East London and need urgent help! She is usually in brogues /DMs with charity shop denim shirts etc whereas I'm very much a dress and heels girl and she has already advised me that how I usually dress (fairly smart and boring) is not really the done thing on nights out where she comes from.

We are going to a house party (I'm 30, this is terrifying to me!) and then to a few bars/pubs on Brick Lane and then meeting my sister in central.

My sister agreed that I should dress down my usual look "in case I look like I'm trying to snare a banker" Hmm She told me to wear jeans, flats and a nice top. I look terrible in jeans and flats and rarely ever wear either unless with boots. And isn't central smarter? Would I feel like a scruffy mare by about 11pm?

I'm a mum of two and rather uncool. 30, longish hair, tan (another no, apparently) a size 8-10 with a large chest. Could probably do with toning up a bit around the middle but the rest is ok. Strapless dresses and Aline are normally a good look for me on nights out where I'm from but I'm nervous that I will look too try-hard if I flash well, any flesh at all really. I'm going to get laughed all the way back to Cornwall aren't I? Please, please help.

I can't believe she advised you to change what you wear. Is she usually such a bitch?

I was quite offended at first but then spoke to my sister who said similar and now I reason they are just trying to save me from myself. Grin

I know nothing about clothes, I have a formula and stick to it which seems fine where I'm from but I get the impression I would stick out like a sore thumb in the kind of places they go to. The fact that they both felt they almost had to warn me what to wear beforehand has made me a bit anxious.
