Ck Eternity????

stillstanding51 · 03/11/2013 18:45

Years ago I used to wear and love Ck Eternity as my signature perfume. People would comment favourably so I guess it suited me then... Over time I became bored of it and have tested and worn countless other perfumes but nothing has kind of stuck with me like Eternity did... Basically would I be wrong to go back to it after 20 years or so away? I've looked at a few reviews online and it seems to be considered a bit old-fashioned now...

Any other recommendations would be useful too, but has to be something I can try out in Boots.

Oh and I'm a young 51, so no One direction or Miss Spears!!
Thanks in advance :)

I've just come back to Eternity, it's still lovely.

missnevermind · 04/11/2013 00:28

I have a bottle of CK One beside me here.
Classic not old fashioned.
Also loved Eternity when given it as a gift.

mammadiggingdeep · 04/11/2013 07:13

I'd consider it a classic. If my mum can stick to her Charlie...you can stick to your eternity :)

stillstanding51 · 04/11/2013 07:33

Aww, Charlie was one of my first 'grown up' perfumes, loved it. And another old favourite was a yardley one - chique - always got nice comments on that one too...
I think so many of the newer perfumes seem to smell the same! and new ones coming out every week! At least Eternity is a little bit unique, I think'll go for it, small bottle and see what reaction it gets :)

You can't go wrong :)

DontmindifIdo · 04/11/2013 08:03

I've started wearing I again, it suits me, and it's nice! Wear it - there's a reason it's still for sale when many other perfumes of the same era are no longer available.

FrugalFashionista · 04/11/2013 10:55

Eternity is a great classic, and era in a bottle! I'd definitely like catching a whiff of it every now and then.

GypsyFloss · 04/11/2013 10:59

I started wearing it again after about 17 years away. It's my every day scent and I love it.

OneLittleLady · 04/11/2013 11:02

My sister has asked for it for Christmas and she's not old enough to have worn it when it first came out so I reckon it's a pretty classic scent now. I like it but given that my sister will be wearing it soon, I can't have the same!

FaddyPeony · 04/11/2013 11:52

Aw, I used to wear this years ago too and it was my signature scent also!

Not sure what happened. I switched to a 'summer edition' version of it one year Hmm and it just wasn't nice - only got about 1/3 through the bottle. Also at the time I was waiting tables and one day a customer came in reeking of Eternity and it was too overpowering. Must smell it again and see what I think.

I currently wear a much lighter scent - Orgins Ginger Essence Skin Scent - but I reckon if I ever went back to CK it would be CKBe for me. I love how subtly pretty that one is.

itsnothingoriginal · 04/11/2013 12:18

I've just bought Tommy Girl again and can't believe how much I still love it! I agree with poster above that the reason these scents are still available is because they are nice!!

I used to really like Eternity and still do but DH bought me 'Eternity Moment' (might be the summer one mentioned above?) and I'm not so sure about that version Confused

Go for it Smile

stillstanding51 · 04/11/2013 14:03

Just been into town a bought a small bottle, I'm loving it :)

Isn't it funny how some perfumes just sort of 'sit right' even though they may be out of fashion. It really is me! Whatever that may say about me, ha ha ;)

DH used to wear Eternity for Men when I first met him. I love it. Invokes all sorts of memories for me that need a Blush emotion!

PastaBeeandCheese · 04/11/2013 14:19

You're so right about perfumes sitting right. I've never found anything i like as much as Armani Code.

JemimaMuddledUp · 04/11/2013 16:28

I have recently gone back to ckone. Felt a bit odd to begin with as I was a teenager last time I wore it, but I love it and think it suits me. I don't worry too much about whether or not it is in fashion.

itsnothingoriginal · 04/11/2013 16:41

I love CKOne too. Also really liked Aqua di Gio when I sniffed it again in Boots recently. Many of the newer scents just disappear on my skin after a few hours. Some of these oldies seem to linger longer and I agree just 'sit right' on me.

justasecond · 04/11/2013 23:39

I have been wearing it off and on for about 20 years now. I still love it.
Nice to see you back Frugal!

FrugalFashionista · 05/11/2013 09:15

Waves to Justa! Eternity is such an interesting perfume because it is megadosed with then-new synthetic ingredients that are now everywhere (laundry musks and the haunting Iso E Super - more technical analysis here) but smelled fresh and new back then and only became ubiquitous years later. It bridges the gap between loud and flashy and baroque 1980s perfumes (careful with dosage!) like Giorgio and Poison, but also makes way for the abstract synthetics-based fresh/translucent perfumes of 1990s and 2000s. When I first tried it I felt I had never quite experienced anything like it. To me, it was abstract and haunting like a dog whistle. It did not smell of anything familiar, it felt really new and unique.

I think many of us will be drawn to perfumes we experimented with when we were teenagers. I was born in the 1970s and will always be fond of some 1980s blockbusters like Eternity, Obsession, Amarige, Dune and Giorgio. I almost never wear them, but for me they are what being grown-up was all about when I was a teenager. Ck One and Eau d'Issey came later when my tastes were already formed - I don't have a nostalgic attachment to them, but probably would had I been born ten years later.

SconeForAStroll · 05/11/2013 09:26

God yes. Dune. My boyfriend bought that for me when I was 18 and I wore it for the four years we went out.

I still really like the scent and tried to wear it again but it Felt All Wrong.

Ormonde Woman for me now.
