Really warm socks - what and where?

It's another Reynaud's thread really but I need warm socks. Half an hour walking around town yesterday and both my hands and feet had lost all feeling and were blooming sore. I wear bog standard Gap or Boden cotton socks and need somethng warmer but don't want anything really chunky as none of my boots will fit.

Any suggestions please?

primark has some thermal socks in two packs for about 3 pounds. I always have freezing cold feet and these have been keeping me nice and warm

I have got some Uniqlo Heattech socks, no thicker than normal socks but well toasty.

My favourites are bamboo socks from BAM on line. Lovely and warm and comfy, get the ones with the supported sole. You will never look back.

Try an equine shop - they do an amazing range of good socks.

It is worthwhile going up a boot size and getting good thick socks.

You can buy inexpensive thin silk socks on ebay - wear them under your normal socks.

Interesting. y take was very unsophisticated last year: I bought men's towelling sport or worl type socks. They did work well enough, but they don't fit under some boots.

Joules do some soft stripey towelling ones which I thought would be ultra thick but no....easy fit under zipped boots and really warm....ps they were recently in sale not sure if still are

Thanks - will check out all your suggestions. Will the composition make much difference - eg, wool or wool mix warmer than cotton, natural vs man-made fibre? I just need warm tootsies!

Have you thought about getting heated inserts for your shoes? they are great. About 99p per pair, and only useable once, but good for days when you're outside for ages.

I have some aluminium foil type insoles for shoes, they are great. I think they are swiss - padded insole with a silver foil type of layer that reflects the heat back up.

Rohan do socks with different 'warm ratings'. Cool-cold, temperate-cool ... I don't find them bulky but warm

John Lewis do some fantastic wooly ones for about £7 which are so warm. I think they're the 'made in italy' ones. They're not thick but they're actually warmer than the massive joules bedsocks I've got. I highly recommend them.

Merino wool socks, in nordic countries you wear wool base layers and it helps. You can get thin ones.

I like Heat Holder socks but they are thick!

Cotton lined merino socks by falke. Very thin, very warm. Sheepskin insoles help my DM who has Reynauds.

Great, thanks for all the recommendations. I put a pair of Merino Falke socks in my John Lewis basket last night as I'm doing an order from there anyway but will definitely check up all the other suggestions.

Uniqlo heattech ones are fab as are sheepskin insoles.

Personally I love H&M wool socks but they are quite chunky.

Uniqlo heattech and sheepskin insoles here too. Try celtic sheepskin for the insoles if you don't have a decent shoe repair place nearby
