Henna over blonde dye

Well, it's come to this:sadly I can't afford the upkeep on my blonde dye job any more and so I'm going back to henna. I'm thinking of going for brown or red as the marron didn't suit me.

Has anyone done this? Did it look okay or was it a bit orangey the first time? Did it cover any grey ok? I have a bit more grey coming in now, which was why I went blonde in the first place as it wasn't as obvious when my roots were showing.

I could always just leave the blonde to grow out until Christmas, get it cut as usual and then decide on a colour just before Xmas so that I've got a fortnight to get used to it, rather than going into work with a serious henna mistake.

The other thing is that I've been blonde for a couple of years now so any recent clothing purchases kind of go with my colouring now, if you see what I mean. Am I suddenly going to look weird in my favourite clothes? I really can't afford to replace a whole wardrobe!

I know I'm massively overthinking this - it' only bloody hair, after all - but I spend minimal amounts on myself and most of my clothes come from Age Comcern or Primark, and if I'm going to lose this expense (I have to - the car needs new brakes, Xmas is looming and DD needs shoes) I want to get it right.
