Epilating

This might sound like a really silly question but how often are you meant to do this?

I epilated my underarms about 3 weeks ago and did a little tidy up of the ones I couldn't face doing before about 2 weeks ago but I don't seem to have any regrowth...

Is this it?! Am I hair-free forever more? WhenI shaved I would have to shave almost every day as it grew back really fast

Anyone epiliate??

I epilate my underarms on average twice a week. I used to have to shave them every day in summer/on holiday as like you the hair grew back fast (and was also thick and dark). The hair is much thinner and sparser now, I could leave it a week but find it hurts more when the hair is longer so two times a week (occasionally three) keeps on top of it.

I am jealous you have lasted three weeks though, but don't expect it will be for forever! You probably already know but make sure you exfoliate as epilating is much more likely to cause ingrown hairs than shaving.

I just epilated my top lip for the first time. Afterwards I did my legs - that part was totally pain-free - all the pain receptors in my body were dealing with the smarting still going on on my top lip.

Owwwwwwwww Shock

I get away with three/four week intervals on my legs.

peasypeeler · 02/11/2013 19:17

OP - you probably frightened your underarm hairs into staying put Grin

DramaAlpaca · 02/11/2013 19:19

Yes, top lip hurts!!! I do my underarms a couple of times a week & get very little regrowth now. As for my legs, after years of epilating I don't have much hair growth there at all now - I think the follicles have given up Smile

Top lip Shock

I had to give up on my legs, the hair was pretty fine to start with but after a couple of goes of epilating they were too fine for the machine to grip properly and I ended up with lots of ingrown hairs.

I do my bikini line but am not brave enough to go right the way down/underneath, does anyone do that or am I crazy? The first time is always awful but then the hairs get finer so quickly I'd like to persevere if possible.

OK bikini line & underneath tactics. Firstly give everywhere a good trim (epilating longer hairs hurts more). Take two paracetamol an hour or so before you epilate washed down with a couple of glasses of wine if you like. Then get down there with the epilator Grin

Mintyy · 02/11/2013 19:47

I epilate my legs about every 10-14 days in the summer. That keeps me relatively decent. I don't epilate my underarms as it literally takes 20 seconds to shave every few days.

spidersolitare · 02/11/2013 19:48

Can I share my top top with you?

Put an icecube on your lip to freeze it first...it does the hurt so much on chilled skin.

peasypeeler · 02/11/2013 20:09

I like your top tip spider thanks! I also recommend the Chardonnay tactic drama

I put Decleor neroli balm on my top lip straight afterwards and I don't have a whisper of red an hour later. SO chuffed :)

peasypeeler · 02/11/2013 20:11

Bikine line and UNDERNEATH? You crazy fools! I'd need a general anaesthetic for that! Shock Shock and double Shock

TheDrugsDontWork · 02/11/2013 20:25

Thanks Drama, the wine sounds like the best tip! Done most of it just the last bit I keep putting off.

peasy I don't find the bikini line as bad as the first time I did my underarms, and it's so much better than shaving (and cheaper than waxing).

Sorry Molly have derailed your thread slightly!

MollyMango · 02/11/2013 21:11

Wow peasypeeler top lip! I don't think I could stand the pain!

I haven't even moved onto bikini line yet...
Thanks for the tip DramaAlpaca

How do I tell if I have an ingrown hair? I don't think I've had one before

Ingrown hairs either get infected or/and go back into the skin and look like staples. You'd know :(
