I will fill you all in later, however the bottom of it is I have 1k to spend on myself as I look , well shit.

I'm a size ten, 5'7, slim build with small tiny boobs but long slim legs and a decent arse, fair complexion, dark eyes and long dark hair - if anyone can tell me what styles and colours etc will suit all that I would be eternally grateful!

Also, where can I shop that is half decent but not too expensive as I want lots of casual pieces. Sahm mum of two, 29 years old btw.

Please suggest styles/colours/shapes/ shops/ anything to get me going and looking fab! Thanks

Mrscampbell Grin - aahh, that's sweet that you worried about me privately Grin ok I'm going to link, be kind all! I'm really seriously out of touch Blush

Mama - Oh yes topshop! Not been in there for ages and ages ... I do actually spend money on skincare/threading eyebrows and good make up already (mac kohl smudge pencil which is ace, Bobbi brown shimmer pallettes and smashbox foundation) so that side of things is ok at least!

Oh yes Lord, someone asked that earlier ..no I will not be wearing mittens and ski hat ! It is just my personal preference to not wear skirts and low cut tops. Don't mind short sleeves though.

tea i wanted to post earlier but got very busy, i agree with marsha dont rush into buying right ,sales will start very soon, some have started already,1k is a lot of money ,but its not a lot if you want to start from scratch.

you said you like they way some celebs dress, thats a good starting point, set up a pin board with all the looks you like,as the lovely mrsCP pointed out some department stores personal stylists are targeted for more mature women, and not someone in their twenties like you.

you are your best "consultant" ,look in the mirror and decide if a certain color suits you or not,if you are skeptical about the the cut/color etc, then no one can convince otherwise,so i would get a good facial and hair cut, instead of color analysis .

accessories: dont underestimate scarves or jewelry, they are what you should invest in,you would be amazed how a good scarf can transform any simple plain look.

TeaJunky · 01/11/2013 22:33

Am I doomed forever with a shit dress sense? DH never likes what I choose. Hmm

Dd1 said in the dressing room really loudly while I tried on some other awful tight jeans ' you are too huge for them jeans mummy'.

Cheers.

Santa, oh actually! I LOVE the way some women seem to accessorise! With all these scarves and necklaces and chunky bangles. I do have afew scarves that I wear but although I love bangles rings etc, they just seem to annoy me when I'm handling dd2 or busy doing other chores so I take them off at random points as I move around the house. I have bangles and rings everywhere but on me Grin
Any suggestions for fuss free accessorising besides a nice scarf?

oops! meant mrscb Smile,
tea why dont you link some looks you like first?

TeaJunky · 01/11/2013 22:46

Ok..I'll try to find something. Blush Don't know any celeb names to be honest, and hardly watch a lot of tv. Sometimes if I happen to see a celeb or whoever in a mag/on tv I'll fleetingly think 'ooh she looks so nice ' but I can't see them clothes in shops.
Mind you, I've only started looking for clothes for myself today after....years Blush

long thought

wonders if will have to start a whole new thread about traumas of shopping after what feels like having fallen off the planet and rediscovering earth as a whole new world

Smile tea, don't worry ,we all have been there! Not in man cityGrin, but where you feel so out of touch with the rest of the world,
I think Jessica alba dresses in a very relaxed and comfortable way, very stylish and suits a busy SAHM lifestyle.

here

TeaJunky · 01/11/2013 23:24

Santa oh yes yes yes! I love and know (not in person!) Jessica alba! Gosh she always looks amazing! Thank you for that Santa Smile

OP posts:
MrsCampbellBlack · 02/11/2013 06:03

I think the things you've bought so far are lovely and totally agree with Santa about accessories and also how fab Jessica Alba looks.

AmberNectarine · 02/11/2013 06:24

I like those buys, particularly the sweater. Another celeb whose style you might like is Jennifer Aniston - simple, chic and demure.

opalmum · 02/11/2013 06:29

I'd really rate HOC too. Well worth it, a great confidence boost.

bigkidsdidit · 02/11/2013 06:41

I love Jessica Alba's look, particularly since she said she always wears scarves as one of her daughters is really sicky Grin

OP I would spend money on really good jeans and a nice bag. Being at home means you have to wear your good stuf every day.

I third signing up to Wearing It Today too. She has lovely style that's quite accessible. Can make you a. But ashamed though, yesterday's was about decorating her daughter's nursery which put my sons' animal posters to shame!

schmalex · 02/11/2013 06:46

Definitely do personal shopping and get your colours done with HOC! My colour analysis was a revelation and gave me much more confidence with shopping.

I've also used Topshop's personal shopping and it's very good for getting you to try things you might not have done otherwise. I had a 2 hour slot and gave them a brief of casual going out wear that looks more put together than just jeans and top. It's free and you get cake! I will go back after I've had my baby and lost some weight.

My DH uses personal shopper (gorgeous gay man!) at Selfridges as he's time poor and rubbish at shopping. They also sort alterations so he often goes when he needs new suits.

MrsCampbellBlack · 02/11/2013 06:49

Oh god I know, her daughter's nursery was amazing.

Those little piles of immaculately folded clothes. Just like my children's rooms, oh yes indeed. I suspect her daughter doesn't wake up to find 2 dead voles next to her bed though.

QueenCadbury · 02/11/2013 06:54

Lovely shopping tea. I'm a big mango fan. They also do it in JL which is a better way if you want to order any stuff online as returns are easier.

If you don't want your colours done then I suggest trying on things out of your comfort zone and seeing how they look. Just beware that things often look good in changing rooms but then totally different at home in daylight. If you don't love something at home or it doesn't work for you then be ruthless returning stuff.

I'm excited to see what else you buy (although I'm 11 years older!).

bigkid WITs nursery also put my kids room to shame! Surely it can't be that tidy all the time though?!

MrsCampbellBlack · 02/11/2013 06:57

It was also the fact that she hand painted all those spots on her DD's bedroom 4 weeks post-birth - god, I was just lazing round feeding all the time at that stage.

I suspect she has a bit of help - in terms of cleaner etc.

SteamWisher · 02/11/2013 06:59

If you're prepared to wear skinny jeans why not a nice fitted dress and tights with boots?

Also I find sticking to plain colours in greys, creams, navy blues best as will last. With the odd colourful top thrown in.

Gap have some nice oversized jumpers at the moment.
I'd try Zara too for tops.

bigkidsdidit · 02/11/2013 07:13

I know we're not supposed to lol but I did actually lol at two dead voles Grin

I expect she has a daily cleaner who does the ironing. I would!
