I will fill you all in later, however the bottom of it is I have 1k to spend on myself as I look , well shit.

I'm a size ten, 5'7, slim build with small tiny boobs but long slim legs and a decent arse, fair complexion, dark eyes and long dark hair - if anyone can tell me what styles and colours etc will suit all that I would be eternally grateful!

Also, where can I shop that is half decent but not too expensive as I want lots of casual pieces. Sahm mum of two, 29 years old btw.

Please suggest styles/colours/shapes/ shops/ anything to get me going and looking fab! Thanks

i'm very jealous! of the money andyour stats!

Why not try going to a personal makeover at Debenhams? I did, it's free, and they did a really good job and gave some great advice about colours and fit and I got loads of casual clothes for my budget. some in the sale

KosherBacon · 01/11/2013 13:16

Go to John Lewis, book a personal shopping session and give them a brief. That money can go very fat with high street brands or you can splurge on key pieces. What do you want? An entire new wardrobe? Or a refresh?

bassingtonffrench · 01/11/2013 13:17

also, if you are short on time with small children, as I was, it is a far more efficient way to shop as you sit having a cup of tea whist they fetch things.

dn't have time for days on end shopping

TeaJunky · 01/11/2013 13:19

Oooh, ta for posts! Must I book this thing in advance or can I just walk into debenhams and request it ?

TeaJunky · 01/11/2013 13:20

Kosher - I think I want a new wardrobe or as much as I can get of a new wardrobe with that amount if that makes sense. I already have nice boots and coat so they're not urgent.

You are best booking personal shopping. If they are good at it they should ask you about what you are looking for and have some clothes selected in your size waiting for you when you get there.

I would go for JL over Debenhams if I had your money to spend!

QueenCadbury · 01/11/2013 13:22

If you want to know what colours/styles suit you then I would personally consider doing colour and style analysis. It will take up a quarter of your budget but will ensure that what you buy with the rest means you will look amazing.

bassingtonffrench · 01/11/2013 13:26

with debs I booked it in advance. They don't do it in every store but definitely the bigger ones e.g. London, Manchester

bassingtonffrench · 01/11/2013 13:26

also, I'd be very wary of spending a 'quarter of my budget' on somethng I could get for free.

TeaJunky · 01/11/2013 13:28

Oh and bassing - don't be jealous, I truly look like shite 99% of the time Grin

Queen - thanks , I considered doing the colour style thing but I really don't want to blow my budget like that, I'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination and I highly doubt I'll get this amount of money to spend only on clothes for myself ever again! Well I hope it's not ever but you know

Gillybobs · 01/11/2013 13:32

Definitely go for your colour and style analysis with house of colour before you spend a penny. I guarantee you will end up with clothes that look amazing on you and you won't buy anything that ends up unworn and unloved. Yes, it will be 20 pc of your budget but means the rest will be spent without mistakes

Skinheadmermaid · 01/11/2013 13:33

Your build and colouring sound similar to mine. Colour wise i look best in strong deep colours especially electric blue and fuchsia pink, however i don't think i'm a winter season as i also suit orange, rust and gold jewellery.
Style wise, what do you actually like?
Do you have any particular style icons?
Do you have a 'look' you would like to recreate?

KosherBacon · 01/11/2013 13:35

If you are in Manchester I wouldn't recommend the Debenhams (I have a real Debenhams downer). The shop is dirty, messy and has a poor range in it.

I do recommend colour analysis too. It has stopped me buying clothes that will "do" and I now only buy stuff I like. It has saved me the £100 I laid out for it already.

QueenCadbury · 01/11/2013 13:37

I doubt very much that any colour/style analysis at debenhams will be as thorough as HOC. I'm not rich either but since having my colours done I love every item I've bought and know it suits me and will mix and match. Some people are lucky and instinctively know what suits them, others need a helping hand.

MrsCampbellBlack · 01/11/2013 13:41

I'd initially try the personal shopping at John Lewis as they sell a lot of brands and its free. See what they come up with and even if you buy stuff and get it home and decide its not right - its so easy to return it.

Also start looking at what other women wear - both in RL and in magazines/pinterest and work out what stuff you like.

I wouldn't personally do HOC but I know many people love it.

HuevosRancheros · 01/11/2013 13:42

I did the personal shopper thing at Debenhams (the Derby one) and thought it was very good. In fact, I went back and did it again when I needed a wedding outfit.

You would get lots for £1k; in fact you could get lots of autumn/winter stuff for half that amount, then go back in spring and get spring/summer stuff

Leopoldina · 01/11/2013 13:43

House of Colour sounds like a cult movement on here sometimes. People really believe that they'll look instantly better buying the wrong shaped clothes in their "season" or whatever rather than seeing a shopper who'll help them with styles that suit and fit? a person can look like a badly tied parcel in mint green just the same as they can in the same outfit in the wrong forest green. I don't get how knowing which colours to pick suddenly makes a person well dressed.

Even better than chucking it at a colour consultant, save £100 of the budget for some decent alterations so things fit really well. Correct fit and cut looks so much slicker than the right shade of peach

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 01/11/2013 13:44

I would book a facial and a hair do first then pop along to debenhams or similar for some make up advice and try out, then straight to your appointment with the styler. go for some well fitting jeans, a smart pair of trousers, a few tops, couple of cardigans, good boots or shoes, a smart jacket, perhaps a coat and lots of accessories such as scarves bags, cheap jewellry. ENJOY

MrsCampbellBlack · 01/11/2013 13:46

Leo - I agree, it is very cultish Wink

Also at 29 you are still very young so don't rule out shops like topshop etc - all of whom offer a styling service.

I'd have fun with it - just try on loads of stuffand get the assistants to help you.

Leopoldina · 01/11/2013 13:50

House of Fraser have some humdinger 30% off promotion on at the moment; not sure when it runs to but our one has v good high end high street brands

MarshaBrady · 01/11/2013 13:52

It's getting close to sales time, so lots of places will have the odd 30% off already. I'd look for those.

I'd do &Other Stories, Cos, perhaps Uniqlo and I would definitely look at the outnet for half price etc cashmere sweater and denim, good for a sahm. Atterley Rd online too, tends to have discounts every now and then.

MarshaBrady · 01/11/2013 13:53

And in terms of style, pinterest is a good way to get things together that you might like.

QueenCadbury · 01/11/2013 13:55

Also tea I would think really hard about what you want to buy. What styles do you like? What do you need in your wardrobe? I find Pinterest really helpful for working out styles I like/dislike and then try to make them work for me.

TeaJunky · 01/11/2013 13:55

Wow thank you thank you for all the replies Thanks

Yes , I definitely need to relax and enjoy because I'm getting abit stressed about it all now Blush

I don't actually have any look I want to create, I see celebrities and every day people looking great but I still Havnt actually figured out why as I'm always too tired/rushed/stressed to notice the smaller details Confused

I think I just fell into this boring mode straight after University, where the skinny jeans stayed and the campus hoodies were swapped for ... Er, non descript long sleeved things. Blush
