What colour tights with brown boots?

I have some lovely brown casual knee-length boots, so want to wear them now the weather is colder (just realised they're part of the current Jigsaw range, but I got the same thing from Atterley Road in last year's sale). I have two short corduroy skirts - one dark brown, the other a dark charcoal grey.

So what colour tights do I wear? Everyone else I see seems to have worked it out. I spend ages agonising over it and then feel I've got it wrong, or just look mumsy. Any advice gratefully received!

any shade of brown with the brown skirt but I wouldn't wear a grey skirt with brown knee high boots coz regardless of what colour tights you wear with that combination it would just look odd. I think.

I would wear black I think. I don't really like coloured tights.

I have black boots as well, but they're a bit smarter, so could wear those with the grey skirt. Wasn't sure if the black looked too harsh with brown. Like I said, other people seem to know what goes with what - I look in the mirror and it just looks all wrong.

dark purple or navy or bottle green with either skirt. Dark brown with the brown skirt.

Never thought about any of those Bonzo. Do I need to wear a colour on the top half that ties in with one of those? Or am I just over-thinking it?

At the moment I'm wearing dark brown ribbed ones with the brown skirt but although I'm quite tall and size 10/12, they still manage to make my legs look like sausages . And I wonder why I wear jeans so much...

Dark grey / dark grey marl would look good with brown boots, neutral but much softer & more casual than black.

With a more casual style of boot you can use a toning or contrasting cuff of long sock at the top to break things up. Maybe good if you want to wear brown tights but not be too matchy.

I can see brown boots working with grey tights & skirt as a smart casual look, with a brown skirt I'd probably wear black boots - but all depends on the shades & styles involved.

Thanks Bannoffee - I do have some grey marl tights which I've not been sure about, so will try those too.

I like burgundy tights with brown boots. Purple as well and maybe a dark green if you can find some

I don't really put that much thought into matching things. I'd just wear something that coordinates, as getting an exact colour match might be difficult. M&S usually have a good range of coloured tights, as do john lewis. ANd obviously you can try on line. I'm an 8-10, and my legs are OK (not great) and I find ribbed tights really unflattering. Opaque or nearly opaque are much more flattering, also a fine fishnet, or a chevron effect like these are better than normal ribbed.

Dark green,
Olive,
Cream,
Dark teal..
Even navy could work.

Many thanks for all of your replies. Lots of you are saying purple/plum/burgundy, which I would never have thought of, but which appeals, so I've ordered some from John Lewis and will try them out.
