Another winter wedding one

I've got a black tie wedding in December. I had a personal shopper appointment at house of fraser today but didn't love any of the dresses I tried on.
The first 2 looked great but weren't as dressy as I was hoping for. The third one was more sparkly but not as flattering.
Please can you lovely s&b experts find something in a similar shape to the first 2 but a bit more blingy?
TIA

Have you tried Phase Eight? They usually have an excellent range of dresses.

poorbuthappy · 25/10/2013 22:40

Black tie to me always means full length. Is it all hotel and no church?

TickledOnion · 25/10/2013 22:51

It's a synagogue service so I'll cover my shoulders for that bit followed by a hotel dinner and dancing. I didn't try any long ones in, I always feel too short for them.

I always thought black tie was long too and that cocktail was dress code for short.

poorbuthappy · 25/10/2013 23:10

Get online to debenhams. Search through women, occasion wear, loads of dresses on there.

Twinklestein · 25/10/2013 23:11

White tie is full length. Black tie is cocktail (ie knee) length, but you can wear long if you want.

I like blue best out of those. Don't like the other two - not very flattering - you've got a very nice figure.

bulletwithbutterflywings · 25/10/2013 23:13

Middle one is lovely - you look great in it! The pink one does nothing for you I'm afraid...

LeoandBoosmum · 26/10/2013 03:07

What size are you?
How about this?

This is also beautiful but sold out unless you happen to be an 8?

This is gorgeous and you have the lovely hourglass figure to carry it off:

Out of the ones you posted, I actually like the floral one best on you - it really flatters your figure. Next would be the blue one. I would give the pink one a miss, it makes you look in the early stages of pregnancy.
You have a beautiful figure; don't hide it away under layers of flouncy chiffon :)
Ps. If you like any of the ones I posted but your size is not available Hobbs or Whistles CS are good at tracking one down to a store for you :)

LeoandBoosmum · 26/10/2013 03:29

How about this (and I just saw your rose print dress searching! :))

If black is an option, this is pretty :)

I love the colours in this, very pretty with your dark hair:

The board is off LK Bennett at the moment (bad CS) but if you buy from John Lewis it's not an issue! :) This is dear though...

Just a few suggestions... :)

Pinupgirl · 26/10/2013 08:46

I cant do links but go on to the Collectif website and search for the Claudette dress-its a full length velvet one and is stunning. You have a great figure-stop hiding it in frump dresses.

TickledOnion · 26/10/2013 11:04

Thanks for the links. I like the Hobbs one best, but I'm a size 12. The alexon ones seem a bit old for me. I'm 35 but in denial. I can't really wear clingy materials. The 2 fitted dresses work because they are made of a stiffer material that hides my belly.

OP posts:
Pinupgirl · 26/10/2013 11:39

You dont have a belly but even if you did-so what? Learn to love it and your figure.Honestly many women would kill for it!

LeoandBoosmum · 26/10/2013 13:23

You have a wonderful figure! Embrace it, as Pinupgirl says!!

I like the first dress best then. Why don't you jazz it up with accessories? Maybe silver heels along these lines (US site but just to give you an idea)

www.eveallure.com/100mm-stiletto-heel-pointed-pumps-silver-patent-wedding-shoes_p9148.html

and...

add a bag like this out of stock one:

Or pick up on that gorgeous blue in the dress and wear heels like these:

Here are some Dorothy Perkins' ones:

and more:

A promo pops up for 25% off too...

....and add in a silver metallic clutch you like? Maybe add in a nice silver bracelet but don't wear a necklace (that necklace is best as it is with no embellishments)

:)

LeoandBoosmum · 26/10/2013 13:31

Just found these shoes:

and this bag (which, to my eye, looks like it has a hint of green in it which would pick up on the palest green in dress 1...if you wanted to bling it up in a more subtle way...

TickledOnion · 26/10/2013 16:58

Thanks for all the links LeoandBoosmum and the nice things you and Pinupgirl said about my figure. I do like that dress but I want something more eveningy. I'll keep looking.

OP posts:
LeoandBoosmum · 27/10/2013 01:08

YW! Hope you find something you love :) Have you checked out Whistles at all? It looks black but is green, it's expensive but I love it (although I don't know why the models have such horrendous posture!!) It's evening of a wedding though...
