Waxed Jacket

After ten years of sterling service, my waxed jacket is finally giving up the ghost and to be honest is a little on the tight size as I'm not 18 years old any more. So I'm after a replacement. I had a look at Barbour jackets but I understand that they're not great quality any more, wearing out after 18 months or so.

Criteria are: needs to be black, navy or brown, lightly padded, belted, and be around the £100-£150 mark.

I'm currently eyeing up the Hudson Dry Wax Jacket by Crew, but I'm not sure I like the quilting - seems like form over function, surely it doesn't help with damp resistance?! Help!

My barbour is a few years old now and still good!
My previous one lasted 25 Shock years before it looked too dead to wear, so I can't quite compare but it's looking fine so far.
I often wear an M+S coat that looks like wax but isn't.. they have them in the 'Indigo' range again this year and it has a nicer fit and look than my Barbour.. cost me £85

But if the weather is really dire.. Barbours still work!

Good point.. I bought my DD2 a Jack Murphy coat last xmas as she is a student at Uni and has to walk miles to her nursing placements.. it's really nice.. cheaper than Barbour but just as waterproof! and a nice feminine fit!

Oh, brilliant, thanks, I'll check those out.

A couple of colleagues have Barbours purchased relatively recently (so, before they got fashionable but in the last couple of years) and they're already fraying around the edges and looking tatty. I suppose I'm expecting too much but my DF has a wax coat he's been wearing for about 20 years.

A bit over your budget, but have you looked at [[http://www.drizaboneclothing.co.uk/women-s Drizabone]?

I had a look at the Drizabone stuff, but it's all a bit boxy and functional, this will be my everyday casual jacket so I'd like it too look relatively nice :)

I like that Celtic one, and I saw one by Jack Murphy I liked too...
