Sizing of Doc Martens Boots????

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 23/10/2013 15:53

I am recovering from a broken ankle and unsurprisingly, have been looking at some much more supportive shoes for when my cast is off. (Plus I rather fancy a bit of a grunge look before I get totally ancient). I wore DM's as a teenager but can't for the life of me, remember what size I bought.
Does anyone know what size I should buy if I am a 6.5 with quite narrow feet?

Was going to buy a 7 but suddenly had a wobble.
TIA!

Surely some stylish ex-goth types around? (Shamless bump)

If its any help I desperately wanted a pair of the Gayle boots (they are slip on ones without the laces) and Im usually a 3.5...the 3 were enormous in fact if they'd have done them in a 2 I could have probably got them on!

Id probably go for a 6 if I were you?

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 23/10/2013 16:58

Thanks iheart, am getting some of the usual 1460 in purple. Anything to cheer me up as am not going to be able to wear heels for months!

Am edging towards sizing down then...

I had to size up as I have wide feet so if you have narrow feet, I would size down to a size 6. As well as trying them on in the shop, try them on at home with multiple pairs of socks on, over carpet or clean laminate floor if that's what you have. Almost all shops will exchange them for a different size for you providing they haven't been worn outside (and yes, they check the soles for signs of outdoor wear) and you have the original box and receipt

Hmmm. I'm a 5.5 and I bought a 5 in DMs a few years back. Killed my feet.

Went for a 6 and they were fine. My feet are not narrow, however.

Can you try them on?

HelpfulChap · 23/10/2013 17:04

I think you will be perfectlly fine with a 7.

I am an anorak re-DMs. As in 1460 8-hole DMs are so called because the first ever pair was made on 1st April 1960 (sad?).

Let me know if you need more info.

Two probs with trying them on

  1. ankle still broken and in cast until next week so getting anywhere is HELL
  2. I am cheekily getting them through a friend so only have one shot at this.

If I get the 7, I figured there might be space for ankle swelling and I could always wear them with thick socks. (Going back to my Nirvana worshipping roots!)

I think they come up a little small so to size up by half sounds good. DD is a 5/5.5 and got a 6 as the 5 was just a tad short for her.

FranSanDisco · 23/10/2013 17:13

Ooh and forgot to day dd has slim feet. Her size 5 boots from last year no longer fit and so size 6 was way to go for the shoes. She wears them to school and they are fine she says - no slippage.

Helpfulchap - you are helpful indeed!
I shall take your advice and purchase the size 7s.

Am so excited about my lovely new purchase!

There are some bargainous pairs here. I bought DD a pair for Christmas last night.

fanoftheinvisibleman · 23/10/2013 19:30

Definitely true tp size but the ability to lace up tight gives some flexibility. I am a 6 and have a mix of 6 and 7 DM's.
