How would I acheive this textured hairstyle?

I'm bored of my current hair (kind of a 'Rachel') and quite fancied this funky type bob

But I've had a bob of similar length before and it's always looked smooth and ordinary rather than like that. Would I need to use sea salt spray or something?

Just remembered I've got a picture on my profile, would I even suit it? Confused

OP posts:
cerealqueen · 23/10/2013 14:21

You'd suit it I think (cute baby btw!) but it might need styling, do you have time?

It looks like you'd need thick hair and a pair of straighteners.

BunnyLebowski · 23/10/2013 14:23

I think that hairdo would look awful in real life.

It's full of uneven short layers and the spiky styling is very dated.

You can do better OP!

lilolilmanchester · 23/10/2013 14:29

Well I like it and think you would suit it. YOu would need some finishing/styling products - I have just discovered this powder which you rub in your hands then apply to hair. It is MAGIC.

Kikithecat · 23/10/2013 14:59

I'm no good at hairstyles but I like your username!

LeoandBoosmum · 23/10/2013 15:21

I had a look at your pic and I don't think you'd suit it :( You are very pretty but that is not the right style for you. I can only see that looking great on a 19 year old with a heart-shaped face and killer cheek bones, and lots of time on their hands to faff and preen.
On most people that would end up looking a bit Worzel Gummidge...

Had you thought of something like this, not as funky but easier to manage?

This style suits most face shapes and I can see you suiting it...

This is nice too...

Thank you for all the honest replies!

Thanks kiki I'm always a bit afraid people will think I'm a bloke with a little debbie habit Wink

I'm a SAHM so do have a bit of time in the mornings to style but whether DDs would have the patience for me doing it is another thing!

Thanks for the links leoandboosmum I do like both those styles but am frightened of looking a bit...boring?

I don't really know what I want to be honest Sad I just want to shake things up, feel I'm stuck in a rut and no hairstyles suit my stupid fine hair!

OP posts:
BunnyLebowski · 23/10/2013 15:43

What about something like blog.netrobe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/1.jpgnthis?

Or a Katie Holmes short fringey bob

Both a bit more stylish and easier to maintain?

LeoandBoosmum · 23/10/2013 15:45

OP
Hmmm...see, I don't think those styles are boring. I think the shorter layers of the style you posted could make you look like you have a mullet (especially as, ime, most hairdressers rarely give you what you ask for even if you take a photo).
In less than confident and very capable hands, there is every chance you could end up looking like this:

Grin

Or worse,
<a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee136/suwarnaadi/hair/joe_elliott_mulletstyle.jpg&imgrefurl=coolmenshair.com/2010/10/joe-elliott-classic-rocker-mullet.html&h=245&w=278&sz=23&tbnid=MOLCzrGZET9TiM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=102&zoom=1&usg=__oiHPEXj2OxtpLqO67HJQSz4sGDY=&docid=pebLYx71L-temM&sa=X&ei=suBnUu3PBuGl0QX3p4CwAw&ved=0CDAQ9QEwAQ" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee136/suwarnaadi/hair/joe_elliott_mulletstyle.jpg&imgrefurl=coolmenshair.com/2010/10/joe-elliott-classic-rocker-mullet.html&h=245&w=278&sz=23&tbnid=MOLCzrGZET9TiM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=102&zoom=1&usg=__oiHPEXj2OxtpLqO67HJQSz4sGDY=&docid=pebLYx71L-temM&sa=X&ei=suBnUu3PBuGl0QX3p4CwAw&ved=0CDAQ9QEwAQ
Grin

Also, with short layers on top, it would take an age to grow out if you hated it :( Happened to me once! The 'stylist' literally razored the top of my head...she actually seemed possessed....I was a bit frightened by the intensity in her eyes as she spun the chair around and hacked at my previously long, pretty locks!

If you want to mix things up, why not go for something more along the lines I posted. The Heidi Klum style still looks modern and fresh, and has texture. Ask your hairdresser about products to help you achieve that texturised look. I think Tigi does a couple, maybe Aveda and Bumble & Bumble... AND think about experimenting with colour instead (though I do like your colour and it suits you).

If you're anything like me, winter wrecks anything I try to do with my hair anyway.. Grrrr...

BunnyLebowski · 23/10/2013 15:56

Oh gawd that Kate Gosselin has the worst hair ever.

Along with Michelle Duggar

the crazy breeder lady.

LeoandBoosmum · 23/10/2013 16:00

Awww...bless. Michelle Duggar looks like she sleeps with a roller in her fringe overnight! Shock

BunnyLebowski · 23/10/2013 16:01

I put a roller in my fringe when I'm doing my makeup!! But I have an actual fringe and not a wispy fart of a fringe.

Loving her crunchy perm too. Bet that's flammable.

StephenKatz · 23/10/2013 19:11

Leo Knowing my luck that's exactly what I'd come out looking like Shock Grin Thank you for the tips!

And ARF at 'bet that's flammable' Bunny Your first link wouldn't work for me, would you mind posting it again? I love Katie Holmes' hair but my 'mickey mouse' hairline makes full fringes quite difficult!

OP posts:
BunnyLebowski · 23/10/2013 19:14

See if this works

nilbyname · 23/10/2013 19:19

Google Freya beha for totally gorgeous hair.

The original link, the spikes bob thing will look terrible IRL, don't do it!

StephenKatz · 23/10/2013 19:41

Thanks Bunny That haircut is gorgeous!

Nil Thanks for your honesty! < off to Google >

OP posts:
TheBuskersDog · 23/10/2013 21:16

Leo, I agree with the OP they are boring hairstyles, nice but boring. They would definitely feature in a top 5 of typical mum/woman in her 30s styles and I think the OP is looking for something a little bit funkier.

cerealqueen · 23/10/2013 22:02

How about a change of colour instead of cut?

LeoandBoosmum · 23/10/2013 22:09

inspects 38 year old bob hair-styled self in mirror Hmm

StephenKatz · 24/10/2013 07:35

Oh dear, didn't mean to cause controversy! The haircuts are nice but yes, funky or 'different' would be nice (although the Kate Gosselin is undoubtedly what I'd end up with!!) Plus I'm still in my 20's You seem to know a lot about hair Leo, bet you're far from boring!

cerial I thought about it, I'd love to be blonde again but worried the upkeep would be expensive!

OP posts:
valiumredhead · 24/10/2013 15:18

Oh I think that hair cut would look awful in RL unless you have a hairdresser to hand every day! You have beautiful hair and I agree could do much better!

valiumredhead · 24/10/2013 15:19

Bunny's link is nice!

Going blonde is time consuming and expensive ime.

LeoandBoosmum · 24/10/2013 16:28

Ha ha, I'm not bothered, I'm happy with my frumpy sleek bob licks woundsGrin
