I'm rubbish at this. I usually wear either Armani She or CK Euphoria but decided it was time for a change. My favourite ever perfume was Gloria by Cacherel but the evil people discontinued it. So for every day for the last week I've walked through House of Fraser and tried a few out but there are just too many and now I just smell really weird Basically I tend to like something a bit musky/vanilla - nothing too flowery and girly.

So what do you wear? Any good suggestions that I might like so that I can at least have a more targeted approach rather than working my way through every perfume in House of Fraser? Because that's rather a lot of perfumes and I think they'll get fed up of me soon Grin

Bvulgari omnia (the brown one)
Deep vanilla white chocolate, it wears very close to the skin.

Marks and spencers have bought out a range of perfumes. They are £25 let me find them and link them for you they are fab.

Have you tried lush vanilla perfume? Its very musky and very pricey.

How about something like Guerlain Shalimar or Dior Hypnotic Poison?

During autumn, I wear Hermes Jour d'Hermes, Hermes Kelly Caleche, Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Nil, Issey Miyake Pleats Please, Bond No. 9 Hamptons, Nina Ricci L'air, Guerlain Idylle and other ones I can't remember right now.
I'm not so good with vanilla and musk - I'm more into citrus, rose and lily.

Gourmands aren't my thing either but have you tried that ubiquitous one that most choc/vanilla gourmands love, the one in the funny bottle. Angel. That's it. Too sweet and headachy for me but it's easy to get hold of and try. Plus it's reasonably priced too (compared to Bond et al)

I bought some new perfumes last week but from a cheapie perfume internet site to see if I like them - perfume parlour. In their search function I could search for notes and try and find some different ones to try.

kenzo amour is a nice vanilla. smells a little like rice pudding

AngryByrd · 22/10/2013 20:36

toca florence; every single time I wear it I am stopped and asked where I purchased it. I've been told I smell 'beautiful'. My GP called me the other day because he wanted to buy some for his wife.

It's amazing stuff.

Bexicles · 22/10/2013 20:44

I have fallen in love with the new Armani one 'Si' it's very musky and vanillary. Also second Dior Hypnotic Poison.

The White Company perfumes are lovely. Just bought Blanc but Noir smells gorgeous too.

AKissIsNotAContract · 22/10/2013 21:03

narciso rodriguez

feelingvunerable · 22/10/2013 21:43

I have just bought untold by Elizabeth Arden. I've no idea what type of perfume it is but I love the smell.

Oooh, thanks for all the replies - will see what I can get hold of to try tomorrow and report back!

My faves: Jo Malone's Pomegranate noir; Estée lauder's Beautiful; and Philosophy's Pure Grace.

BigOrangePumpkin · 22/10/2013 23:10

Another vote for Hypnotic Poison. I've just bought a bote of Lolita Lempicka 'L' off Amazon, it was an absolute bargain and it smells divine. It's quite an autumnal scent too. I also like Cinema, but that's more for evening.

If you go on Fragrantica they have hundreds with descriptions and reviews and they suggest things that you might like according to what you've looked at.

ScooseIsLoose · 22/10/2013 23:20

My all time favourite is dolce and gabanna (red box) I always have a bottle of that on the go. The one I'm wearing a lot at the moment is tom ford black orchid I love it but appreciate it's not for everyone. I'm obsessed with perfume another nice one is Prada amber it's not too flowery.

recall · 22/10/2013 23:25

I've just sent off for a sample of Chanel's Sycomor, I have read great things about this stuff, I will let you know...

cardamomginger · 22/10/2013 23:33

Recall Sycomore is lovely. I used to adore it, and then I got upduffed with DD and my sense of smell changed and even though she's now 3, I still can't cope with it any more Sad. It is quite a strong vetiver, so if you find it's too much, give Hermes Vetiver Tonka a go.

BeCool · 22/10/2013 23:34

I've been wearing various Fragonard perfumes for years since visiting their perfumery in Grasse, France in 1996!! Fantastic to see M&s stocking them now. Lovely scents and great quality.

My fav ever perfume is Feminite du Bois by Serge Luten.

slev · 23/10/2013 13:09

So I've done a bit of shopping and you lovely people have definitely helped! I tried Dior Hypnotic Poison, Armani Si and Jimmy Choo and then ran out of space on my arm

Jimmy Choo is definitely a grower - I didn't like it at first but sitting back at my desk now I'm getting the odd waft and have changed my opinion. The other two I liked up front and in the end went for the Dior - but it was a close run thing.

Am going away at the weekend so may treat myself to one of others from duty free - but am very happy with my purchase in the meantime. And will definitely keep an eye out for the others in the future.

So thank you - appreciate it's very difficult to give advice based on my rather vague description but it's worked so Thanks all round!
