Interview outfit help please

I have an interview on Thursday.

Because of pregnancy, maternity leave and going back to university I haven't worn a suit in over 2 & half years. I'm not even sure if I have any suits here (we moved house/country/continent) let alone knowing whether they fit me or not.

If I can't find anything in the wardrobe, which is highly likely, I'll have one afternoon (with DD2 age 2 in tow) to find something.

So I'm going to need to be ruthless. There'll no time for dithering.

I'm 5 foot 4, probably a size 16 to 18, carry most of my weight around my tummy, 34/36DD bra.

I'm going on the assumption that for the interview it should be relatively formal wear - although considering it's NZ, who knows!

What sort of things should I be looking at? (No need for specific shop recommendations, here in NZ we're unlikely to have them. I'm looking for ideas on styles - finding the right shop is the next hurdle!)

Thanks!

I could really do with a personal stylist

Think about how the people there dress. Then go a step smarter. Good bag. Well groomed. What makes you feel good. Good luck

Skirt suit looks dated, trouser suit looks 90s - go for a dress and a good jacket. Feminine and confident, plus both useful outwith interview situation if you don't get it

Buy a lovely suit jacket, then take it shopping with you and try on lots of dresses. Nude tights and courts.

bigbrick · 21/10/2013 22:42

good idea shredded hoops. Look out for a bag to match or a folder in strong material in case you need your cv etc

vvviola · 21/10/2013 23:30

Oh ShreddedHoops that's a great idea! And more likely to be a bit more forgiving of weight loss eventually

Hmm... I wonder would any of the dresses I have be an option, and then it's just a case of looking for a suit jacket.

I'm guessing plain and subtle rather than bright and flowery would probably be best...

Pattern is ok, but not florals. Whatever suits you. In UK I'd go with Hobbs or Phase Eight, or Laura Ashley maybe? A dress that makes you feel good, whatever shape that is. Wrap, or shift maybe. If plain, a statement necklace. And good shoes!

dashoflime · 21/10/2013 23:58

yep, another vote for dress.
Nice dress- thick belt to pinch it in maybe?
tailored jacket over the top
necklace

MrsShrek3 · 22/10/2013 00:02

yy another vote for a good jacket which can hide a multitude if sins and a dress you feel stylish and confident in. great advice here so far Smile
and good luck!
