I've just spent the day in a large shopping centre being uninspired by the offerings from the usual high street suspects (Reiss, Ted Baker, Whistles, Karen Millen, etc). They don't seem to have much in the way of party wear in yet. Things are not helped by the fact that my usual style in bodycon but due to a short pregnancy and various other issues this year, I haven't spent much time in the gym this year so want something that isn't too clingy around the tum and bum.

I'm 37, a 10-12. Would spend up to about £300. I want knee length, not long (too formal) and look best in bright/dark colours - pastels wash me out.

Any ideas, stylish MNers?

Red skirt, white t shirt and a hat covered in hundreds and thousands?

tethersend · 20/10/2013 22:40

Will look.

I've recently been recommended the John Lewis site & lots of choice www.johnlewis.com/women/partywear/all-partywear/mid=length-occasiondresses-6000009020/c6000140055

The Osman is beautiful!

Sthingmustbescaringthemaway · 25/10/2013 16:35

So OP did you find anything suitable?

eurochick · 25/10/2013 21:56

Thanks for your ideas ladies (v tempted to turn up as Lady Penelope, but I am not sure that the person who is organising would have appreciated it....). I love the Osman but wasn't sure it is quite right for this do.

I've trawled Oxford Street today and ended up with this:
www.coast-stores.com/maddie-dress/dresses/coast/fcp-product/2224815057 (as it's Coast, I'll just have to hope there aren't 64 other people there wearing it!) It's not too far off the pink Reiss number suggested above.

It's very different to my usual style - I tend to favour figure-hugging and rarely wear pink, but it looks amazing on. I think it has just the right of glitter for the occasion and importantly it makes me look and feel slim as it skims. I'm a couple of inches shorter than the model, so it is not too short on me.

I've had a rough year (3 rounds of IVF, mc and a cyst removed so I'm pleased I managed to find something I can feel good in, that is suitably glam for the occasion).

Thanks ladies. I love all the ideas and suggestions on S&B! You are a stylish lot over here.

I hope I will have a wonderful time. A minor castle has been hired for the event. So low key, it ain't!
