Tips for greasy hair

Any tips for really greasy hair?

My hair looks awful the day after washing. I use elvive greasy shampoo and only condition the ends.

My hair was amazing when I was pregnant! Could go for days without washing it if I wanted to.

Try a gentle shampoo as your one for greasy hair may be too harsh.

Try washing every other day and using a dry shampoo inbetween.

YY to dry shampoo and then I find a 'messy up do' covers a multiple of sins. The madder it is the less people will notice :) When I was pregnant my hair didn't get greasy until day 6!

Dry shampoo is a god send!

LittleTulip · 20/10/2013 11:41

Dry shampoo!

It sounds counter intuitive but the more you wash the more oils your scalp will produce.

Try something gentle do the messy updo as suggested and try to lengthen the time between washes and you'll soon have a happy balance.

Dry shampoo (or talc - cheaper but messier!) and a messy up-do. I use Batiste dry shampoo and do my hair in a messy sock bun and you can't tell it's an in-between day Grin

I also have greasy hair. I need to wash it every other day. I need to wash it every other day. I know some one who only needs to wash their hair once a fortnight and D.D has a friend who only needs to wash her hair once a month. I'm rather envious. x

Wash it with fairy. I did that when I couldn't afford decent shampoo and it's far better at getting all the grease out of my hair. Some shampoo doesn't get the hair properly clean IMO. Must condition though because it will dry out your hair.

Thank you. I do use the dry shampoo. It doesn't seem to work as well as it does on the woman on the tv lol!

same here, wash every other day. The day it's been washed... i will go to bed with dry shampoo freshly sprayed to make it last longer. Using washing up liquid every few weeks is a great deep cleanse. The only shampoos to work for me are Lush's I Love Juicy, or Rehab. I always condition the ends really well.

alltoomuchrightnow · 20/10/2013 23:06

and even when i colour my hair.. i won't use shampoo for coloured hair.. it just weighs it down and makes it greasier. I've never seen one for greasy coloured hair.

alltoomuchrightnow · 20/10/2013 23:07

I rinse really really thoroughly.. in sink not shower.. last few rinses in sink.. head dunking seems to be way more effective.. and end with a very cold rinse. I never use totally hot water and i don't rub too hard.. as both those can stimulate oil.

PinkFairyArmadillo · 20/10/2013 23:37

Try using a silicone free conditioner. My hair is quite greasy and it's miles better if I avoid silicones.

My favourite combination is Pantene Classic Clarifying shampoo and Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture conditioner. I don't leave the conditioner on for long, as soon as I've put it on and worked it through my hair I rinse it out. If I leave it for too long I find my hair gets greasier quicker.

madmomma · 21/10/2013 10:00

Yy to the pantene classic shampoo. It really cuts through the grease in a way that dearer or more 'gentle'shampoos just don't. If I use it, I can wash it every other day. If I use something else it's got to be daily. Instead of conditioner, I towel dry and spray with bumble + bumble prep spray. It is bloody wonderful - knocks out static, silkens and detangles with absolutely no weight at all. My head is a chip-pan, particularly for 6m post baby so I sympathise. Nothing more depressing than having greasy hair, and it's such a nice simple luxury to have clean hair IMHO.

I just wash mine every day - with a good shampoo, this is fine and doesn't strip my hair at all.
