What boots with a maxi skirt?

I have a couple of nearly ankle length fitted maxi skirts, but have no idea what boots I should be wearing with them.
Guide me oh wise ones.

I'm no fashion guru but looking at stuff round the internet it seems to be that short ankle boots are the way to go see here
