How long before you replace a mascara?

Cos mine lady for ages but then go gradually weird.....

For example I am using Benefit They're Real at the moment, which I love - bought it about 6 months ago and now it melts down my face by about 3pm.

Is this due to its age? Should I replace or is there a better product which gives a similar look?

actually I have a fairly new one of these and although my lashed look great I do seem to end up with panda effect under my eyes very quickly with it so may just be the mascara. do you have oily type of skin?

VerySmallSqueak · 11/10/2013 20:56

About 10 years here.

Vibbe · 11/10/2013 21:05

3-6 months because of bacteria. I rarely use them up or find that they go weird in that time.

Sometimes mascara can start smudging because of oily skin or if they come in contact with other products on the skin - moisturisers, eye creams, cream eye shadows and so on.

valiumredhead · 11/10/2013 22:06

I get through a tube every 2 months approxGrin

Mumelie · 11/10/2013 22:11

6-8 weeks. Once it starts to dry up. I use it for 3 coats at least once a day.

MacaYoniandCheese · 11/10/2013 22:13

I use mine every day and it usually dries out and starts to flake after about two months, at which point I chuck it.

runningonwillpower · 11/10/2013 22:17

When I don't like it anymore?

Or is there a rule for everything?

RevoltingPeasant · 12/10/2013 10:48

No, no rules, just wondering how long it lasts :)

See, I use mine at least 6 days a week but they never seem to actually run out! They just sort of.... degrade.

I don't think I have specially oily skin and also it doesn't really come into contact with it. I wear only BB cream around my eyes, no cream shadows, but I do get the panda thing.

I may try Lancome Hypnose next as as I have heard good things about that.....

But I do love Benefit.....

I like Bad Gal,no problems with it.It dried up the other day (after 2 months) though and just quickly replaced it with Barbara Daly smudge proof.Unfortunately it's both smudge proof and budge proof!

ElizabethBathory · 12/10/2013 12:54

When it runs out, takes about three months I think. They seem to dry out rather than change consistency I find. I do a lot of layers Grin

HomeEcoGnomist · 12/10/2013 18:01

Hypnose is great...every time I go off and flirt with something else, I always come back to this. Great coverage for quite thin and feeble ginger lashes...no smudging/flaking/melting, but washes off easily. Lasts about 6 mths and I use it min 5 days/week

evertonmint · 12/10/2013 20:08

Oh god, my Hypnose purchase was a disaster - clogged up something rotten within about a week. Thought I did something wrong, bought another a few months later, same thing! And I don't do that pumping up and down the tube thing that ruins them so it wasn't that!

Mine go bad within weeks usually. I don't know what I do!

No 7 waterproof however works a dream for me.
