I Had a fitting this morning with a lovely lady at m and s,I was a little surprised at how big the bra was she has chosen for me-38D,this was deterwmined by meaduring under my breast and looking at me-but to be honest it seemed to fit and looked ok when she put it on and felt comfortable and when standing looked as if it fitted.
Now I'm at home it feels, far too big,as I'm sat typing this the bra gapes at the top.and the band isn't touching the breast bone.
I'm going to return it but what should I look for instead?

Ok, if you were fitted at M&S then it is almost certainly the case that the bra is the wrong size.

Have a read of this

I had two women in m&s try to make a 32dd.

Utter tosh. I got a fitting because my friend had one. I am a 34c and politely made my point by putting on the same bra in my size and the size they suggested and showing them that wearing the bra size they suggested would result in the bra cutting in some places and gaping in others.

My friend was mortified and she would have bought what they suggested for her, which was also wrong. Thankfully she didn't buy.

I'm not saying they are all wrong, just the two we had were. In fact they appeared to be wearing ill fitting bras as neither of them had a nice shape and their chest didn't seem supported.

Oh ffs!
I really did wonder how she could get an accurate size just by looking and measuring in one place!
I always wore 32c or 34c or so I thought, maybe I was always wearing the wrong size but just taken this new bra off it looks like something my mum used to wear.I'm a 14 so could I ever even be a 38 bra?
It's odd because it looked like a good fit in the shop, but there's no way I have enough boob to fill this at all.
I haven't got a tape measure so will get one this weekend and have a try myself from the website you linked to.
Thanks, and any particular recommendations for good bras?

Points Freya, Fantasie, Panache, Cleo, Curvy Kate and Bravissimo are all good brands. TBH, the M&S fitter will have measured you under your bust and then added 4/5" to get the 38 measurement. I would estimate that you're more likely to be around a 34FF.

SundaySimmons Hmmmm, it could be possible that you are a 32DD than a 34C, what are your under bust and across bust measurements (as per the guide linked to up thread)?

SundaySimmons · 11/10/2013 20:53

Sorrelforbes, I am 100% a 34c.
I know before using that measurement guide that I am that size. However I have got the tape measure out and this us what I am

Measurement under bust. Two millimetres under 34 inches!

Leaning forward measuring round widest part of breasts, about a millimetre over 37 inches.

That corresponds with a 34c.

I like to wear underwear sets and can usually buy off the peg as I usually go for a similar style. I don't like balconette, I think it looks strange on me, I have very round boobs and don't think the shape is right for me.

SorrelForbes · 12/10/2013 07:33

That all sounds good then.

StatisticallyChallenged · 12/10/2013 10:44

Yup, an actual 34C SundaySimmons - it is however a really really common size for women to be told they are by M&S and co when it's totally wrong so I can totally understand why Sorrel checked!

Their whole adding inches nonsense just causes so many problems!
