Uniqlo jackets for toddlers - sizing

Just discovered that Uniqlo post to Ireland so am rather bouncy for joy and thinking about ordering down jackets for me and the wee DS but from what I've seen so far on MN, sizing seems to be troublesome, and I don't really want to pay for returns if I can help it.

DS is 2.5yo and currently wearing tops for 4 yos (with the cuffs turned back) and trousers for 3yos. He's 100cm tall with a long body and shortish legs. The Uniqlo sizing for age 3-4 seems to be too short on the arms but too big on chest and length (although taking growth for next year and big jumpers into account this might not be such a bad thing). I want to get 2 winters' wear out of it if I can.

Anyone got any advice?

I have just bought a down filled Uniqlo coat for DD1. She is 3 and currently wearing age 3-4 in Marks & Spencer/Next sizes but will have outgrown it soon(!) I thought the sizing seemed small when I looked at the measurements on the website so I ordered age 5-6 and it's fine. I got the longer length style here which comes down to just above the knee on her and although the sleeves are a bit long, the elastication in the cuffs is strong enough to keep them up on her wrists so it's fine. I wouldn't have gone for any smaller to be honest. If he's 2.5 but quite big then I would go for larger rather than smaller.

Thanks emsyj. Just Wiki-ed Uniqlo and they're from Japan. Perhaps Japanese kids are a different shape to British ones. Putting DS in a size 5-6 sounds crazy but I might give it a go - they are really nice looking especially the colour block one .
