In my opinion anyway Wink

I've just been to Keswick and whilst sitting in the market place I saw a lady go by wearing a fantastic hat.

I'm not one for shopping usually but I do like a browse in local shops so dp and I went looking for a similar hat. I found the exact one in the larger Rathbones. Turns out it's a Barbour hat.

This is it. I love it. Even my mam said it's worth the money and she'd normally balk at spending that on a hat.

It's waxed and great for the winter. Plus it's made in the UK.

The lad who sold me the hat was trying to tempt me with the matching jacket. I said I'll do a bit of overtime and be back for it. Any excuse to go to Keswick Grin.

Has anyone bought a Barbour jacket? Do they take much looking after? I seem to remember exdh had one that smelt musty. Maybe they're different now?

Will I end up with a musty head? Shock

Stephen Jones! WOW .. now as a 55yr old could i get away with that red velvet crushed number (or would I look a bit 'old mad' lady?, im fast becoming one!) ..

niminypiminy · 07/10/2013 21:09

I'm hoping to be mad (and rich) enough one day to wear a Stephen Jones hat.

Vibbe · 07/10/2013 21:13

Barbour jackets still smell if they are waxed (they smell more just when they've been waxed and less after a while).
They do need to be re-waxed every so often - I do it once a season, but I don't use my wax jacket much.
My dad uses his all the time and re-waxes more often.

You can get Barbour to do it for you, but I don't know how much it is and how long it takes.

..wonders how much Stephen Jones hats actually are.... (and if I should consider upping the mortgage to buy one...

Thanks Vibbe, not sure I fancy wearing a smelly jacket. Or is it a pleasant smell if you keep them waxed?

WonderWomanInAOnesie I like the new styles but they are a bit too expensive. I'm going to try to do a couple of days overtime and get one though. I love the one I linked. I'm sure the smell will be fine Smile

I'm sure I would look like the crazy cat lady in that hat

NotScared · 07/10/2013 23:04

No you wouldn't, honest. You'd expect to but it looks great.

My best friend said it reminds her of Miss Marple but she likes it Grin

NotScared · 07/10/2013 23:12

looks great! I love the accessories in hats although I do not look well in it.

NotScared · 08/10/2013 09:11

It really does look good on. They should have a picture of someone wearing it.
