ASOS

Ordered a coat from ASOS. It was so badly made it made Zara stuff look like haute couture. Anybody else find that?
The coat looked smashing on the website.
It was completely unlined and the sleeves were not sewn in right. Is this the norm or was I just unlucky ?

Hmm, watching with interest. I've only ever ordered one thing from asos, a dress from their own brand, and I was thrilled with it.

Putitonthelist · 06/10/2013 15:49

Find it a bit hit and miss. Ordered things I've been very happy with and some I've sent back due to shocking quality for the price.

On the plus side, free postage and free easy returns.

Ihatemytoes · 06/10/2013 16:33

I order from asos quite often. Found their study to be ok most of the time, much like any other shop.

emsyj · 06/10/2013 16:33

I've only ever ordered one thing from Asos (a maternity dress for a friend's wedding) and I sent it back because it was just hideous - the shape was all wrong, the fabric was cheap and nasty and the colour was nothing like it appeared on the website.

And yet I have a very groomed-looking, glamorous friend who buys all sorts from there and raves about it. I guess, as a PP has said, it's probably a bit hit and miss.

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/10/2013 16:40

I would agree, very hit or miss but free delivery and returns so I don't mind too much. Had some lovely things, but also some utter tat.

hollyisalovelyname · 06/10/2013 19:00

I'm not in U. K. so the returns are not free!! A coat will be expensive to return.
My first and perhaps my last purchase from them.

Which coat? Ive just been looking at one and am tempted by it?

VivaLeThrustBadger · 06/10/2013 19:05

this is the coat I like but I'm worried I won't be able to shorten the sleeves if needed

I've had nice dresses from them before, own brand ones.

SundaySimmons · 06/10/2013 19:20

I buy lots for my children and sons girlfriend. Tops, dresses, skirts, bags, shoes etc.

I occasionally buy for myself but hadn't bought a coat until recently.

I bought two. One of them is ridiculously sized. I am a ten but they had sold out so bought a twelve thinking that a coat size can be slightly looser, but this coat is so huge it would easily fit a size eighteen with room to spare!

Won't buy a coat from them again.

macygracy · 06/10/2013 22:15

I buy loads from there but only the branded stuff. Asos brand has always been awful, it has actually improved but still awful!

trixymalixy · 06/10/2013 23:07

I love their own brand dresses. I've got about 6 of them Blush. I also have some lovely shirts and a fur coat. I haven't had any issues with them.

pudseypie · 07/10/2013 08:31

I have a dress and a blouse from there. Ok but wouldn't say they are the best cut or quality but often what you get there is quite different to the rest of the high street. But as there are no delivery or return charges you can at least check them out first and send back if not ok. I did get an amazing real leather handbag from there in a half price sale that looks really expensive but was a bargain.

ElizabethBathory · 07/10/2013 13:29

I have one ASOS own brand dress that I love - have ordered many more but they've all been awful quality so far. I use the site loads for branded stuff though, it's great.

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 07/10/2013 13:35

I have a few dresses and they are very hit and miss for sizing, the 14 is usually huge

Chipstick10 · 07/10/2013 16:42

I find many of their dresses come up very small.

AndTwoBits · 07/10/2013 16:50

I got a pair of supergas in the sale, the Rita Ora gold ones. Decent discount

hollyisalovelyname · 07/10/2013 18:11

I just posted back the ASOS coat. It cost me £5 !
It's like paying a £5 to look at something. I've learned my lesson Smile

Did you not a a free postage return sticker in with the order holly? I've never paid for any Asos return.

TheCraicDealer · 07/10/2013 18:41

I love the look of their own brand stuff on the website and have ordered a few dresses from their petite line, but the quality really lets them down. I got a galaxy-esque dress a few years ago, stitching came away a bit around the boob but sorted it myself. Ordered another one in a different colour, wore it to work, a customer approached me and whispered, "love, there's a hole in your dress...". Felt my bum and right enough, split right up the arse along the seam. Had to run to the toilets with a stapler to effect an emergency repair.

Sewed it up myself, went out for meal wearing it. Seam split again, further up the back. Had to put my mac on every time I went to the loo.

Despite this, they were v good when I sent an angry email after exposing myself for the second time; I got a full refund even though the dress was about a year old by then, and they gave me a 10% off voucher.

ElizabethBathory · 07/10/2013 19:08

Are you not in the UK OP? Asos returns are always free for UK customers.

hollyisalovelyname · 07/10/2013 19:33

No not in the U. K.

Sent ASOS coat back. Saw a similar coat in H and M. The quality was way better and it was a good bit cheaper.

FaddyPeony · 14/10/2013 11:47

I am conflicted about ASOS. I love the site, I love how quick and professional they are, I love that they do free delivery and that I can get almost anything I want under one virtual roof if I need it quickly. I love that they do non-hideous petites and maternity.
The own brand whips out very good fashion bits very quickly and in lots of sizes and colours.
However the quality is shite. Holes appear, the pockets wear and tear. Nothing lasts.

So now I mostly buy branded stuff from them and that works out well.

However I do quite like their Ridley Ultra-Skinny Jeans. I wear them all the time and have re-dyed a black pair once already. I don't expect my jeans to last me 10 years plus because I wear them all the time, so am OK with replacing after a couple of years.

ElizabethBathory · 14/10/2013 16:11

Faddy, I like the look of the Ridley jeans - is the sizing standard or should I go up/down?

FaddyPeony · 14/10/2013 17:23

I'm a smallish size 8 and about 5'2. The petites size 8 is perfect on me -6 would be too small. Not sure if there's more give in the standard line but I'd say you should be okay in your normal size.
