Did it!

I found pilates really dull, but I did some core conditioning classes over the summer which were similar to pilates but a bit fiercer. Personally, if I don't go a bit purple, I feel cheated. Grin I wear a very bright pinky-red top to my circuits class and quite often get told "woohoo, you must be working hard, you have a colour match".

beachyhead · 16/10/2013 10:53

OK, so I've registered with the local Leisure Centre.... and I've got a Willaid appointment. What are you lot like! I'll be a proper grown up person soon.

QQ, will check availability for Ghosts soon as have a few Traveldodgy nights booked in over the coming weeks.

I would just like to say to all of you who larfed at my Darth Vadar poncho.....have you looked out of the window today? I Rest My Case Grin

Stropperella · 16/10/2013 10:54

Dd's school is off tomorrow, but ds's isn't. I dunno why but they never strike. Ds is somewhat displeased.

originalpiratematerial · 16/10/2013 11:25

I find matwork Pilates a bit dull, but I love machine-based Pilates - I go to a great place just off High Holborn. My Pilates teacher is having a baby in December though - I will really miss her, she's brilliant.

I know what you mean about keeping upright and keeping everything pulled in whilst running, mi [nods sagely].

motherinferior · 16/10/2013 11:34

I had a fab pilates group. We still meet up to, er, eat and drink. We used to get into trouble for chatting so much Blush

I did a DIY C25K on the way back from the school run, involving intervals of running 20 paces, walking 30 20 paces. It was reasonably tiring, so I feel I've done my bit.

So cross. I'm v short of money, and had managed to sell an old Vivienne Westwood corset on Etsy for £100! Woot, I thought. Then I got a parking fine of £100 for overstaying my welcome in Homebase. Weep.

Cremolafoam · 16/10/2013 11:44

Very impressed with dedication to exercise you lot. I am yearning to get back to the pool, but not allowed yet .

Beachy( in poncho) yes agree the coat prob not that warm but I do have a fur lined parka for Baltic days. The red would be for smart lady shopping/ cleaning up ones act in one fail swoop should the occasion call for it.

Dh's new obsession is baking( rolls eyes) so my gunt has NO HOPE whatsoever . On the upside he made
extaordinaire petit croissants at the weekend Grin

Cremolafoam · 16/10/2013 11:46

Oh herbsShock truly bad luck

Stropperella · 16/10/2013 11:47

Herbs, what a bummer!

motherinferior · 16/10/2013 12:01

I managed to clip the wing mirror on someone's car a while ago and had to shell out £120. I feel your pain...

I got a parking ticket for 'parking outside the lines' in a private car park last year. Bloody infuriating as I'd just bought a bargain in Tkmaxx but adding the parking ticket makes it now the most expensive item in my wardrobe.Wink ( silk top I wore at meetup)

motherinferior · 16/10/2013 12:28

I of course wore vests when that age. Along with the many jumpers that Pirate, of course, will recall in reality. She probably hasn't recovered yet.

I did Pilates for a few years, but stopped when we moved house, as it was too far to trek. It certainly firmed things up post-baby, but I didn't see a lot of difference. Running has totally taken away my lower back troubles, though (sorry Beachy, you'll have to think of a better excuse Wink). Just like MI, I try to keep my core muscles tightened while I jog.

Parking tickets are the worst, aren't they? BUT BUT BUT Herbs if it's a private company ticketing you (presume it's one of those ones that photos you as you drive in/out) you are within your rights (I believe) to ignore it, and they can't get you. I'm sure there are MN threads about it, or look at Martyn Lewis. Only ones issued by councils etc. are enforceable.

Teaching strike? I only heard about it yesterday; our schools never seem to be affected (must be a different union?). DS and DD1's school have INSET days Thursday and Friday anyway!

herbaceous · 16/10/2013 13:17

Ooh really CV? It is indeed a private company, the letter bristling with pictures of my car entering and exiting. But it's full of scary phrases such as 'recovery action' and stuff...

beachyhead · 16/10/2013 13:44

There was also a recent legal case where, if the ticket didn't have the procedure for appeal clearly stated on it, then it was null and void.

Might need to do a bit of googling. Also private companies are terrible for having the 'correct' signage etc, so you may be able to appeal on that.

Think I may need to buy running shoes. To be honest, my dsis has managed the c25k and is now running 3 times a week, so I really should be able.

motherinferior · 16/10/2013 13:44

here

and here

OP posts:
herbaceous · 16/10/2013 14:05

Yes! I've had a peruse. It seems one has to be steely and determined, and ignore the letter and eventually they give up. Or I could appeal the amount on the grounds that it far exceeds the 'damages' that one's parking fine is apparently offsetting. Sounds a hassle, but for £100...

bigTillyMint · 16/10/2013 14:12

Running isn't for everyoneWink I much prefer to be in the gym, or to do a long but fast walk outside.

Hooray! I've finished my work paperwork - such a boring jobSmile

bigTillyMint · 16/10/2013 14:12

Go for it Herbs!

herbaceous · 16/10/2013 17:55

I have a tedious food safety question. We made roast pork at the weekend. The leftovers were made into a ragu sauce last night. We didn't eat it all, so I put the sauce in the fridge. Is that ok to reheat? Isn't there a rule about reheating food more than once?

Cremolafoam · 16/10/2013 18:15

"You can reheat pork but it is only recommended that you do that once. If the pork is frozen, then it has to be given time to thaw first before reheating. The fat content of pork helps to keep it soft during reheating."

Wouldn't recommend herbs according to above advice from HPA

herbaceous · 16/10/2013 18:20

Poop. That does seem to be the general consensus. I reheated some for DS's dinner, but mercifully he didn't like it.

MrsSchadenfreude · 16/10/2013 20:28

I would eat it. I use my nose to sniff and it has never let me down - nor have I been ill from my cooking or made anyone else ill.

I have a non-style and beauty question, regarding DD1's asthma. Her asthma is ALWAYS triggered by a chest infection. If she gets antibiotics from the get-go, with steroids as a potential back up, she generally recovers quickly and avoids a stay in hospital. Our last doctor got this completely, but those we have seen recently, have preferred to "see how it goes" with more blue puffer. So as a result, we have had a couple of stints off school, really quite unwell, and having to be given a massive dose of strong antibiotics for two weeks to treat the chest infection (which made her feel sick all the time). I don't want to "see how it goes." I want her to have a short course of cheap antibiotics to stop the infection NOW, not to have to either end up in hospital or be off school for several days. How do I get this across without being seen as a stroppy cow?

QueenQueenie · 16/10/2013 21:06

I think you pretty much say what you posted Mrs S with a firm tone of voice and a steely glint in your eye... Maybe make an appointment now (when she's not ill) to discuss?

bigTillyMint · 16/10/2013 21:10

I think we probably would too, MrsS. I have never made anyone ill from my cooking either, AFAIK! We all have cast-iron stomachs anyway!

Re the GP. Hmmm. Do you see the same one each time? Could you go in with the dates of illnesses and medication, etc and then discuss how it was managed en France? And be assertive about itGrin If they won't do what you suggest, make them agree that if the result is hospital/time off school, they will give your plan a go the next timeAngry
