LOL at chocolate raisins being your favourite Wilbur! And is the Hunger Games an imaginative play game? Mine used to play English v Germans (as in WW1/2), but could never get anyone to be the Germans!

wilbur · 01/11/2013 14:49

Hunger Games is something they have devised based on the books - it involves creating a cornucopia of stuff (today it appears to be shoes and water bottles) which have to be snatched in between the patrol of "careers" coming by. Ds2's little friend has impressively managed to snaffle a nerf gun (high level weaponry usually won by the 12 yr olds) - I believe we will have to prise it from his cold dead hands. Players then have to kill each other in various hideous ways and make alliances as they go. This will mean absolutely nothing if you have not read the books. Garden is complete mayhem, but hey, it's November and they're outside. Smile

BTM - when I was little, we played cowboys and indians Native Americans, and weirdly, no one ever wanted to be the cowboys. I think we all wanted to wear feathers in our hair.

beachyhead · 01/11/2013 16:33

Love those purples strides, MI. Might have to take myself to Jigsaw to try on. They are expensive but as I wear my jeans 5 days out of 7, I do need an alternative. I have black jeans, but somehow the fit is 'slightly' wrong, so they never get picked.....

Quite peaceful here as only two dc at home (once you take one out of the equation, all is well Grin). Getting ready for a dinner party tonight, where I'm guessing there will be much dancing in the kitchen!

motherinferior · 01/11/2013 16:41

I have eaten more mini crunchie bars in between writing about dieting.

Wilbur, dark blue though same price here

and a few quid cheaper I am liking these

M&S also seems to do them but I've found them oddly shaped in the past. The odd shape may of course be me.

Velvet trews sound good. The last pair I had were during toddler days, so they got very badly "knee'd" after one too many soft plays, but I don't do as much crawling about these days. I find cords always go baggy and saggy too quickly, though.

Wilbur - I'm impressed by the imaginative play exhibited by your offspring. Hunger Games is an amazing film too.

DD1 has just arrived home from Thorpe Park Fright Night, having lost her voice from screaming, and utterly shattered. DS is out at a party, followed by sleepover at a mate's, and DD2 went to bed early after a day swimming with her BF. It's been a remarkably peaceful evening at the end of a mighty busy week.

By the way, l thought you might be interested to know that my tablet had a recent upgrade and I am writing these words freehand with my finger and the tablet is translating my handwriting into text! Impressive, but needs a little practice.

hattymattie · 02/11/2013 09:14

Wow - CV - I didn't know that existed - might go for a tablet after all. I avoided them on the grounds I hate virtual keyboards - have enough trouble with my phone.

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/11/2013 13:04

Am still trying to get some semblance of order into this place. Very late night last night as Kitten had a runny tummy and decided to wipe its arse on the hall carpet. Fortunately, with disinfectant and carpet cleaner, it has come off, but ugh. Also ended up giving Kitten a bath, which was even more fun. DH is threatening her with Battersea... Sad

I feel like I am living in a squat.

Blackduck · 02/11/2013 14:31

Oh MrsS :(
How's things on the job front?
Howling gale here - and I'm not impressed with the dishwasher - too much like hard work.

motherinferior · 02/11/2013 14:32

MrsS- is it time to throw an almighty wobbly and insist that you all go to effing blinding B&Q or suchlike and buy paint????

bigTillyMint · 02/11/2013 16:01

BD, you need to get everyone into the habit of putting their dishes directly into it (having previously agreed what goes where!) and also who stacks after meals/empties when clean. It will then work seamlesslyWink

CV, am liking your return to good old-fashioned handwriting on your tablet!

In Crepey news, a brochure came this morning about OAP's assisted living flats. I thought it was for me, but it appears it is for DHGrin

hattymattie · 02/11/2013 17:13

Agree with BTM. BD my DC's have to put their own plates in dishwasher.

Mrs S - I am always very happy to visit squats. I am fed up with dropping my children off at houses that resemble manors and are perfect Inside. Makes me socially anxious as I feel I can never invite these people/kids back to my own humble abode complete with broken ceilings in the living room where the shower leaked.

Blackduck · 03/11/2013 07:46

Page 2 Crepeys?! Does that mean everyone had a fab Saturday night ;)
Here it blew a gale - worse than last weekend - windows actually rattling.....

herbaceous · 03/11/2013 12:08

Arrived back to Stansted last night on delayed Ryan Air flight in that very howling gale, had to wait ages for baggage, then finally got home at 1.30am. DS up at 7.45 to 'play planes', which involved telling us about what to do in the event of a water landing.

Shafted.

QueenQueenie · 03/11/2013 18:58

Welcome back Herbs! Did you all have a good time?

motherinferior · 03/11/2013 18:58

Oh sweet baby Jesus give me strength; we are on our way back from lunch at my very nice cousin's very nice house near Cambridge. DD1 announced ON OUR WAY that she has at least three pieces of half term homework still to do. I hadn't hassled her (unlike her sister whom I forced to so hers despite weeping and wailing) because she appeared to have it all planned out. She has attempted to pass buck saying she thought we would be home earlier and we never help her etc etc. It is 7pm and we are nowhere near home...

herbaceous · 03/11/2013 19:42

We had a great time, ta QQ. Weather was amazing - clear and sunny sunbathing type weather. Blasted freezing after about 5, though, so no sitting about with sundowners.

We got into a routine of lazy morning (complete with egg from resident hens, homemade marmelade, etc), scenic town for lunch and wander, beach for DS, then home for basic dinner. Or big dinner made by owners of gaff.

The Algarve was practically deserted, apart from other brits, all of whom struck me as mumsnetters.

motherinferior · 03/11/2013 20:40

Oh herbs, that sounds marvellous. How niceGrin

OP posts:
wilbur · 03/11/2013 20:46

Glad you had a good time Herbs, sounds lovely. MI I have had to stand over ds1 & ds2 as they complete "forgotten" homeworks of creation myth analysis and a poster about the different types of geography respectively. Ds2 very disappointed at dh and my ability to help. Neither of us took geog o level, we both have no knowledge or tbh interest in it, so we just looked at the kid blankly and referred him to the Encyclopedia and/or Google.

beachyhead · 03/11/2013 21:03

We also 'found' some hw to do this afternoon, which seemed to take about three hours. Then I 'found' all the kit bags which have been festering in the kitchen for two weeks Blush. So all the radiators are now covered in trackies and hoodies!

I love the sound of the Algarve. I feel the need to get away. This half term has not been relaxing at all.....

bigTillyMint · 03/11/2013 21:21

Herbs, your photos look fabEnvy You should have offered the Pom Bears round!

MI, leaving it till the last minute is now DD's speciality. I have asked both DC to pack their bags, get out uniform, etc for tomorrow - DS has done it, DD is on her phoneConfused

herbaceous · 03/11/2013 22:15

Algarve is lovely, though I think the east bit is to be avoided - all private developments and golf courses. We managed to find some pretty quiet villages, helped by the time of year, of course.

DP starts his new job tomorrow, and I've got to get arse in gear re salting. AFAIK DS doesn't have any homework to finish, but frankly am not going to force him into it.

lalsy · 03/11/2013 22:16

Half terms are just long enough for kit, homework, everything to fester without actually being properly relaxing, IMO.

Algarve sounds lovely.

motherinferior · 03/11/2013 22:22

Next time perhaps we should all bog off to the Algarve leaving the buggers to do their own sodding homework.

I forgot PE kits. Oh god.

OP posts:
motherinferior · 03/11/2013 22:24

I do resort to pointing out that I have a clutch of extremely good GSCEs (well, O levels) , several A levels and two degrees. I do not need to do homework, dammit. That ship has sailed. Quite well.

beachyhead · 03/11/2013 22:25

So pleased to be of service, MI......
