Help, please! which wine red bag???

OK. I've decided I really, really want a dark/wine red bag to go with my A/W wardrobe.

Was originally planning on this:

www.russellandbromley.co.uk/shoppers/miniwillow/invt/712478
It's just the colour I want, I know it's good quality, and I have some R and B credit. Only thing I'm worried about is that it has no top zip and the internal purse will only have room for keys, Oyster card and credit card. so makeup etc will have to go in a separate purse - fiddly.

Have also looked at this:

www.lkbennett.com/bags/shoulder/BSKARA627PRINTLEATHER

Don't like the colour quite as much but has a little more inside - eg keyfob.

Or, I could go with this:

www.kipling.com/uk-en/bagsational-2.html?show_img=K1529565700+999

Cheaper, more secure but looks less classy?

Or, I could go completely away from my original tote/shopper idea and go for this - which is reduced at moment:

www.peonyandmoore.com/product_info.php?cPath=0_12&products_id=190 P and M are nice bags, but red slightly lighter than ideal.

Please, please, help me with votes/ comments.

TIA.

Peony & Moore one gets my vote.. Russell & Bromley tote has been done to death (copy of zara one from last year) and it's awkward on the shoulder & small & open, LK Bennett one looks cheap, not a fan of the colour, Not keen on the kipling - too boring. Like the Mimi Berry one... the last Russell & Bromley one is too fussy & not keen on coloured inserts...

polyhymnia · 05/10/2013 13:23

Mmmm, totallt take the point on the R and B one, even though colour is perfect.

Can see why you don't like the colour of the LK Bennett one. But the P and M one which you do like is also berry rather than wine, no?

Anyone any views on that last Hobbs one I posted with the three compartments.

Ha ha! Read the op and was about to suggest Aldi "Shiraz"
Doh!

ouryve · 05/10/2013 13:37

Am I the only one who had to read this thread title a few times and wonder why it was in style and beauty? :o

Agree that the Kipling one looks awful. It's not even leather. The R&B one is the classiest looking, but impractical in lots of ways. Have you looked at John Lewis? They have several in the general size, price and colour you're after (IME reds are hard to see clearly on a computer screen, anyhow) I do like the Radley one that was linked.

ouryve · 05/10/2013 13:37

Your hobbs link goes to product not found.

polyhymnia · 05/10/2013 13:53

Ah well I am interested in red wine to drink too, but that's another story.

My second - not first - link to the Hobbs bag does go to the bag I meant, on my phone anyway, but not my first - sorry.

Btw, have def eliminated the Kipling now !

Hi there,

I have the Olivia in dark brown from last season - definitely not frumpy! It really funky with the side tassles! Would love to see it in the red!

Love the russell and brom tote much more than the LK bennett one... don't like the kipling one as it looks cheap? Depends what size you after to be honest... Russell and brom if you want a tote...p&m if you want a handbag!

xxx

polyhymnia · 05/10/2013 16:29

Yes I think you've summed it up v well bottles.

Am leaning to P and M Olivia now as I think a bag will actually be more useful. Also I'm a sucker for an outside pocket.

Do wish it was darker - but I guess if I order I can decide for myself if it's OK colour wise and doesn't look frumpy on me. they have free returns IIRC.

Love that etsy one

MoreThanWords · 05/10/2013 17:57

For a bag with no zip, you could use a handbag insert/organiser inside it!

polyhymnia · 05/10/2013 18:10

Yes, organiser inside a tote is a possibility.

That Ted Baker bag is nice but don't want a bowling bag shape this time.
Or a curvy one like the Spanish one.

Just checked out the Hobbs small zip one I linked to or tried to - and it's def too small for me. So that's one more eliminated.

Am going to look back at the Etsy and some of others linked to tomorrow when I have a bit more time to myself.
Have got till end of weekend before the code on the P and M one runs out.

Oh and did also just see the Hobbs Perrin in RL - thanks for suggesting.
Lovely bag. Does have zip unlike R and B one. Tho not much in way of other compartments etc and of course no outside pocket .
Could be good choice if I go for a tote not a bag.

Final call:

I really want a bag this colour:
www.russellandbromley.co.uk/shoppers/miniwillow/invt/712478

but sadly just don't think that style is practical and would give me enough use.

People have kindly posted some alternatives - but though most nice, none are perfect - too shiny, too structured, too much metalware, etc.

So am thinking of trying this:

www.peonyandmoore.com/product_info.php?cPath=0_12&products_id=190

though colour not perfect - not dark enough.

any further suggestions/views, please?

I do love the first R&B one. Colour is perfect.

Ah I know you're not keen as hard to use. Have you looked at it in the store?

polyhymnia · 06/10/2013 16:33

Yes, I have and I do still lust after it - colour is perfection.

So maybe I need to work out if there's a way to use it - eg, have extra holes punched in straps so they sit snugly on shoulder, fit credit cards, phone and Oyster in the attached zip up purse ...

Am going back to R and B tomorrow or Wed. anyway re using up my credit with them, so could look again then.

OP posts:
MarshaBrady · 06/10/2013 16:53

Yes that could work, there's a bit of strap at the bottom. It is even lovelier close up. It's so annoying when things are gorgeous but won't work for practical reasons.

Has this M Kors been linked? I think I prefer the R&B. But is the strap longer? Shame the model doesn't have it over her shoulder.

Viviennemary · 06/10/2013 17:01

I like the first one the best but I also like number four. Three is OK Number 2 is an awful colour I thought.

SundaySimmons · 06/10/2013 18:43

I've posted so many, can't remember if I posted this one?

www.tkmaxx.com/view-all-accessories/dark-red-textured-leather-tote-bag/invt/11555730

SundaySimmons · 06/10/2013 18:51

This made me laugh! Whilst looking at bags for you, I came across this

www.etsy.com/uk/listing/61235098/semi-annual-50-off-sale-was-65-1980s?ref=sr_gallery_12&ga_search_query=Dark+red+leather+bag&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=GB&ga_page=7&ga_search_type=all&ga_facet=Dark+red+leather+bag

Sorry for being crude, but that does look like a bottom hole, doesn't it?

Grin
polyhymnia · 06/10/2013 19:24

Thanks sunday.

First one really quite nice, second a bit too red, third - yes it does. An extraordinary object!!
