I bought this dress to wear to a wedding. I bought it beacuse it was cheap (monsoon charity shop £6 bargain!), covers my arms, is a really flattering fit,and is silk, BUT, I pretty much hate don't really like the pattern. It's creamy with pink, black flowers and sort of camel/beige in the background. I have tried to add pics, hope they work!

It's a winter wedding in a big church so likely to be quite cold, at first I though black opaques, black heels and jacket ( ihave a lovely blazer from gap) - as there is black in the dress the the hem and sleeves have a fine black trim, but it looks odd when I try it all together. I have a pink cardi but that looks odd too, and I don't know what shoes I'd wear?

I ownder if a camel type colour jacket and shoes would tone it down a bit? I don't have one, but I could scour the charity shops again or see if I can borrow one. It has long sleeves so I don't need a jacket but I wouldn't feel right for a wedding without one, espcially a very formal one (like the one I'm going to sounds)

No money to buy anything else, unless I see something in a charity shop. My other option is a blue shift dress but I'm not sure on that either, it's more of a work dress and not massively flattering.

Ideas oh stylish ones??

Would it look OK with the nice jacket you have and nude tights? Sometimes black opaques can just look a bit harsh if a dress has white in it.

brambleandapple · 04/10/2013 14:24

A worky looking dress might look less work like if you have statement jewellery and dressy shoes to go with it.

tethersend · 04/10/2013 14:24

Do all black and get a hat. Maybe a dark red one.

Can you post a pic of blue dress?

FauxFox · 04/10/2013 14:27

I think black opaques and shoes would look great with it! Maybe it is the formal tailored jacket jarring with the floaty dress rather than the colour? A fur collar might soften it up? Or what other coats have you got?

Twinklestein · 04/10/2013 14:29

I think it's a bloody good buy for £6.

If it's a winter wedding I'd wear a coat. Preferably black. Have you got/can someone lend you one? With perhaps pink/red scarf.

You don't need a cardigan because of the sleeves. And the great thing about such a striking print is that you don't need much jewellery.

Pompbear · 04/10/2013 14:33

Blue one is at the dry cleaners but it's basic shift dress - clings to my stomach a bit so I don't feel great in it but I like the look of it more if that makes sense.

I don't really do floral, but I liked that Oasis winter rose dress, couldn't afford it so bought this. Maybe it's the tights...

I love those fur collars! Not sure I could carry off tho, I'm 5 foot...

I do have a black hat type thing tethers, not a facinator but one of those little hands Kate middletons tends to wear... I could try that.

Yeah the price and the fit is what made me grab it, just putting it all together makes me go off it a bit.

I do have a creamy coloured coat from Great plains a few years ago - lots of people bought it. It's a bit tight but the shred migh help with that. i'll try it all on now with the coat.

Floral looks great on other people but I just feel a bit meh in patterns and MEH in floral patterns. Can't complain at the price though!

If you think it looks odd with black tights then just wear nude...

Pompbear · 04/10/2013 14:38

Though opaques would be nice and warm. It's a full catholic service in church in December so likely to be brrrrr!

If you don't like it you could always sell it on ebay? There is one on with two days to go that is already at £16 with 9 bids so you could easily make £25+ for it and then buy something that's more 'you'?

DameFellatioNelson · 04/10/2013 14:47

I think it's really nice. I think black opaques might be a bit heavy though - I'd go for nude/beige patent heels I think, and a really nice chunky statement necklace, perhaps in black. I think the ideal thing would be a camel cape or woolly wrap of some sort, but it's going to be tricky to find one if you are relying on charity shops. Try ebay?

Twinklestein · 04/10/2013 14:54

A cream coloured coat would be perfect. You don't have to wear it done up if it's too small, just put it with an oversized scarf.

DameFellatioNelson · 04/10/2013 14:56

How about something like

this?

this bit expensive, I know but the idea is nice.

this?

this is dead smart and a total bargain. I demand you buy it. Grin

Twinklestein · 04/10/2013 15:00

How about some tights like these in 'Cappucino' They're 40 denier, high shine, & would go with the colours in your dress.

Twinklestein · 04/10/2013 15:01

Cappuccino ^

DameFellatioNelson · 04/10/2013 15:07

here's another one.

and another

nice fluffy gilet if you don't mind no sleeves

DameFellatioNelson · 04/10/2013 15:08

Those tights and shoes are gorgeous Twinkle

Pompbear · 04/10/2013 15:20

Ooh I love the smart wrao Fellatio, and I like the shiny tights but my legs are quite short, do you think you need amazing legs for those?!

I might see if I can flog something quick on ebay to get one of those wrap things.

Tried the cram coat and I think that looks ok.

If I go for nude tights, cream coat (or wrap thing if I can work some magic, I have basically got rid of all my bank cards so I can't buy anything online... long story, unless i have paypal credit from selling.. hence the charity shop thing) would black, nude, cream or pink shoes be best??

One of my friends has the same size feet as me and we often borrow shoes so I can ask what she has

Thanks so much everyone!

Cream coat! not cram

LeoandBoosmum · 04/10/2013 15:57

I think I'd try to get a darkish red pashima or jacket to go with that. I think black tights and shows would look good still.

LeoandBoosmum · 04/10/2013 16:01

I like that last one DameFellatio posted. It's available in black too!

I think, it being winter, I would wear the above, with black tights and patent heel....topped off with a red hat...

LeoandBoosmum · 04/10/2013 16:11

It's also there in red....very nice. The back is pretty too...cape-like
