help smarten up my DP

Hi, been asked to post this on behalf of my DP.
He's starting a long term work placement at a primary school to strengthen his pgce application and is wondering what male primary school teachers wear. Up till now he's been a SAHD and freelance writer, before that he was a drama student. His usual style is scruffy -leather jackets, checked shirts, converse, jeans with dubious stains on them and stubble. He's 23 and is anxious to make the right impression.

Shirt and trousers I would go for all teachers I have seen are still dressed smart

tie, shirt, trousers, polished shoes the first day, possibly losing the tie and adding a nice finer wool v neck jumper after he's checked the other male staff out
