Faulty necklace down plug hole- rant!

I am so upset. Before the birth of our first child I bought a diamond star pendant. It was a special one off purchase tat I've only worn a handful of times. Anyway today, whilst washing my hands in the bathroom, it just fell off down the plug hole.

I am gutted, we don't have a u bend sink so it's just gone. The necklace and small diamond connection tab still there but pendant just gone. I've emailed the shop as I think it must have been faulty but not holding out for any goodwill. I do still have the valuation certificate as proof of purchase though. No way I can afford to buy a replacement so that's that.

Anyone else had something lie this happen? Please pursuade me I don't just have really ad karma or something Wink

Is out covered by house contents insurance?

valiumredhead · 25/09/2013 19:43

Are you sure there isn't a U bend of some sorts?

Twinklestein · 25/09/2013 19:47

You could try taking the pipes apart from the sink to the outside to make sure it didn't get caught on the way out...

I thought there would be but my husbands says there's not. Just straight down.

Whenever I lose jewellery down the plug some big change happens. I am not superstitious, nor do I believe in fairies. Moderately sane. But twice one my earrings went flying straight in the plughole and then something much better came along.
Make of that what you wish, but for me it is not bad karma :)

I sound like a right looney, I realise that.

I've tried to locate u bend but think what is the u bend isn't accessible. My DH is being a prat and won't help.

I don't think you sound like a looney dilidali, in fact I hope what you say is true. I could do with something good happening.

I would ban your husband from using the basin and call a plumber out first thing tomorrow, assuming the necklace is worth more than the plumber is likely to cost.

where does the pipe end? there is usually a grid if it goes to an outside drain that may have caught it. call a plumber to check pipes. don't give up without a fight.

Plumber has been out and checked....it's gone Sad. Thanks for tips on trying to find it though. I managed to clear a lot of yucky black sludge from pipes.

I'd look at claiming on your house insurance if you can.
