Hi, wondered if anyone can help. I bought a used monsoon wedding dress. It looked lovely until I tried it on, then I realised the wide chiffon shoulder straps have been altered. When I put it on it pulls the dress up far too much. I probably need to add about 2 inches. Any ideas thanks

Do you know anyone who sews? It may be simple to fix.

Not personally but I could contact someone. Was really thinking about doing it myself with a few ideas.

I sew. I would remove straps and my own to fit. If you start chopping at it and adding bits it may look odd.

Problem is there is a band that goes round the chiffon strap same as band under the bust

Can you link to the dress? Or post a photo? Agree with SundaySimmons that completely replacing is a far better option but as you say it links to band under bust would be helpful to see the dress itself to give advice :)

Tried to find a link and couldn't will take a photo and post. Thanks

Okay, I see what you mean now.

I would take the dress to John Lewis or another fabric store with a decent selection of bridal fabrics and see if you can get something which matches as near as possible. You might end up having plain satin straps but you could add beading to them yourself - you will need a fine beading needle and clear beading thread.

Having said that, is it just the straps which are too short? Or do you need to replace the chiffon section too? If the latter then I would get it done by a dressmaker.

It's both strap and chiffon, it must have slid down on the person before and it has been cut and altered to fit at the top of the shoulder. I'm feeling more annoyed with myself as I was trying to save money by buying second hand but in actual fact have spent a lot on a few dresses that were all wrong in one way or another. (Valuable lesson learned) ...
