A happy and safe place to talk fashion (from high end to high street), beauty and the arts. All welcome to bring a positive state of mind, lots of links and an eye for detail.

I will pin a pic of skirt for proper opinions. Think looks better IRL

frankietwospots · 25/09/2013 16:51

That skirt is so much better in real life Drywhite! M&S make their clothes look dire online. Some of their videos are shocking...

So I bought the pleather leggings as recommended by GrumpyOldHorsewoman and they are fab, fab, fab! Link here: www.next.co.uk/G4978s1#420711G49

But...WTF do I wear them with? I think they need dressing down, so more long chunky jumper than pussybow blouse, or even a simple longline Breton might work. Must consult the Baukjen catalogue for ideas as they have the megabucks real leather pair. But what about my feet? I love the zip detail on the ankle and it seems a shame to cover it up under boots. I've got M&S leopard stilettos that might work. Any other suggestions for ankle boots or other alternatives?

I also popped along to M&S to try on their leather look jeggings in a different colour. The black ones had been quite wrinkly on me, but true enough, the sizing is inconsistent and so the cranberry ones (deep plum) looked much better. But boy is it a fight to get the ankles over your feet when you put them on! But then again, I have quite wide feet. I think I'll end up getting them at some point though as they are rather foxy.

Drywhiteplease · 25/09/2013 16:56

M and S offering was pretty good actually (even in my little provincial grannies branch). I tried on the skinny leather look jeans Does My Bum lLook 40 mentioned...not too bad at all, but not me. Lift and sculpt super stretchy skinnies were good too.
I was v tempted by this but it's a style I need to grow into......will wait until the sale

Drywhiteplease · 25/09/2013 17:17

Cross post frankie . M and S leather look skinnies good for the price I thought...and comfy once in

shopafrolic · 25/09/2013 18:48

Need to catch up but just quickly.... Have any of you fabulous ladies had to contest a Planning Application to build a house near / next door to you on the basis of loss of light / too dominant a property?

LinusDKD · 25/09/2013 19:29

Hilarious piccies on Pin today. I have no clue where my pictures from my university days are, maybe at my parent's house, but I think it's for the best. Wink

dry lovely skirt and it really looks better IRL. And those Mint Velvet trousers are very tempting, especially since I lost out on the Me&Em ones this summer.

sleep your hen night must have been wild!

santa the navy/beige scarf is lovely but if it doesn't work with the rest of your wardrobe there's not much point.

LinusDKD · 25/09/2013 19:32

Rats, Mint Velvet don't deliver outside of the UK.

MarshaBrady · 25/09/2013 19:52

Love the photos on mnv. Have put one up. No funny perms unfortunately! That was a great era, wonder what kicked it off.

Want to catch up, so many people talking to me right now! Back later.

mignonette · 25/09/2013 20:16

Am trying to find the photo of me w/ hair extensions done at Antenna in London back in 1985 when they were first invented-horrific. I have all of that early 80's horror show in a shoebox somewhere.

And the punk ones. And the staggering out of Kinky Gerlinky/Club dog/Powerhaus.

BrandyAlexander · 25/09/2013 20:18

Shop, that's what we're doing now. We have objected to our neighbours planning application on the basis of loss of light. We're unlikely to win, as by all accounts quite hard to do so, we have done it on very friendly terms. What do you want to

In other news, I found out the hard way this afternoon that dd has a nut allergy. She's okay now but I was shit scared, it was a reaction to one nut. That I gave her.Sad I also rediscovered why I always avoid one of the doctors at my GP surgeries unless its a dire emergency like this. She really is a dick.Hmm

McNally · 25/09/2013 20:21

Have had a lovely last hour catching up on the thread and pin. Love all the photos! Not sure I look that different from my college days (just a bit more haggard!). Did have about four inches cut off my hair at the weekend though (now just above shoulder length messy bob) which I think may have been an error...

mignonette · 25/09/2013 20:26

Oh Novice That is awful. Have you been given an Epipen and a referral to the allergy clinic? You ought to have been offered one.

LinusDKD · 25/09/2013 20:31

novice poor DD! It must have been so scary! Glad to hear she's ok now.

shopafrolic · 25/09/2013 20:33

Novice so sorry to hear about DD that must have been so frightening.
Can I PM you?

McNally · 25/09/2013 20:39

God novice, how awful. Glad she's ok now.

Congrats on your trip, by the way. Sounds like you did a brilliant job. Gorgeous outfits too.

BrandyAlexander · 25/09/2013 20:40

Mig, no. That's why I am not a fan of this doctor. I gave her a cashew nut, 5 mins later she had HUGE welt under one eye and a smaller welt over the other. She started coughing. I had started a conference call, banged the phone down grabbed her and went to the docs. The receptionist was really good, took one look at dd and made an immediate appointment and phoned the doctor in her room to say it was an emergency. Who kept us waiting for 15 mins then said......eye swelling isn't normally a sign of an allergy, it's normally hives so can't possibly be an allergic reaction and must be an insect bite. Ignored the fact that we were indoors and I was next to her.

Dd has eczema, asthma and has had allergic reactions before where she has come out in hives. Still she wouldn't even consider the possibility. Oh and then proceeded to question me on why I hadn't given her nuts before now.AngryAngryAngry

MarshaBrady · 25/09/2013 20:47

Oh Novice that is so scary. You poor things. Really big hugs from here. You did well to deal with it so well and so quickly. Dr sounds like a bad experience too.

santamarianovella · 25/09/2013 20:55

novice that dr is a loony! they should have offered your dd,antihistamine ASAP!,dh has allergies and so are the dcs,

mignonette · 25/09/2013 20:56

The Doctor is talking dangerous Bullshit. Eye swelling most definitely is a sign of allergy because the eye is a mucus membrane and when nut oil gets into it, you get swelling just as in the mouth, nose and throat. And children rub their eyes a lot too.

PLEASE insist upon a referral via another GP.

I carry an Epipen because of bee/wasp allergies plus Latex and Codeine (not so serious yet but a nuisance because of my job) and i get eye swelling, hives and tracking red striations between my fingers and down my arm if I touch latex and lately, if I handle Codeine Phosphate tablets.

PM me if you need any more info. I'm sorry the GP was such a dismissive bitch.

Maybe keep some childrens antihistamine handy so you can giver her an emergency dose should this happen again and worsen. Speak w/ a Pharmacist about it before you buy some. They know more about drugs than a Doctor anyway.

LinusDKD · 25/09/2013 21:02

That GP is a disgrace! DN has a peanut allergy and Dsis first noticed something was wrong when his eyes swelled up after eating peanut sauce.

Definitely get a second opinion!

Drywhiteplease · 25/09/2013 21:07

Novice that's scary. Mig is right! you need an epipen. Go and see another doctor.

I've had a lovely evening with DD. She wanted to try my wedding dress on...it fit her perfectly and in my shoes she was much taller than me. We even put the tiara on. The veil was an in law family one so she didn't get that to try. So sweet. Then we sat down and had a cup of tea and she asked my what an orgasm was Shock.
Deep breath.....sex ed at secondary school obviously omitted mentioning words such as " vagina", "erection" and "ejaculation"... Oh I covered it all !! apologies to the faint hearted Need a stiff drink. But........she said I was a great Mum and more "modern" than her friends' mothers! Smile sometimes they can make you feel great.Smile

santamarianovella · 25/09/2013 21:10

mcnally im sure it looks great, maybe cause its shorter? im getting bored with my hair and it does need a cut,but dont want the curse of going to a new hairdresser to fall upon me!

im not brave enough to post my pics, dont think i have changed that much,my hair is longer though

shopafrolic · 25/09/2013 21:14

Well done Dry what is an orgasm then?

OP posts:
MarshaBrady · 25/09/2013 21:15

Well done Dry!

Santa I'm sure you look fab. I did hesitate then thought what's the worst that can happen .

Sleep love the sound of your hen night. Club royalty!

mignonette · 25/09/2013 21:19

Dry That is hysterical. Good for you for talking w./ her. I never had any conversations like that. Mind you my parents were so unhappily married that my Mother probably had more chance of seeing a Unicorn than an orgasm.
