Conditioner for curly haired ds - no poo method

Suddengeekgirl · 19/09/2013 16:23

Ds has curly blonde curls and usually ends up with scruffy surfer hair. I've given up trying to tame it

We've stopped shampooing as it seems to make his hair frizz/ tangle so are doing the no poo method.

What conditioner is best?
I'm looking for something fairly reasonably priced. :)

Thanks! :)

I like the raspberry and blueberry ones.

I think it's only the anti-oxidant ones that are silicone and SLS free IIRC. You might find it helpful to have a spray bottle with water and a dollop of conditioner for those no-wash morning! (I use it to style my hair as well)

Suddengeekgirl · 19/09/2013 16:50

I have some Alberto balsam but it has a silicone in it. Think it's the raspberry one? Confused

It's really hard working out what has a silicone in without having a degree in chemistry! Blush

Some boots own brand, naked, tresemme conditioners are silicone free. Chemicals ending in one are silicones eg dimethicone. Some products are helpfully labeled silicone free esp if to buy something at the health food shop, otherwise read label carefully they sometimes sneak it back in!

OneLittleLady · 19/09/2013 17:08

tresemme Naturals conditioner is pretty good and you can get huge bottles for not too much money.

Snatchoo · 19/09/2013 21:57

Oh you're right about the raspberry one. The coconut doesn't:

Aqua (Water),Cetyl Alcohol ,Panthenol ,Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil ,Litchi Chinensis Fruit Extract ,Cyclopentasiloxane ,Stearalkonium Chloride ,Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine ,Cyclohexasoloxane ,Cetrimonium Chloride ,Glyceryl Stearate ,Citric Acid ,Disodium EDTA ,Alcohol Denat. ,Methylchloroisothiazolinone ,Methylisothiazolinone ,Parfum (Fragrance) ,Hexyl Cinnamal ,Benzyl Salicylate ,Butylphenyl Methylpropional

Neither does the blueberry one:

Aqua (Water, Eau),Cetyl Alcohol ,Cyclopentasiloxane ,Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine ,Stearalkonium Chloride ,Cyclohexasilane ,Cetrimonium Chloride ,Parfum (Fragrance) ,Glyceryl Stearate ,Citric Acid ,Benzophenone-4 ,Disodium EDTA ,Alcohol Denat ,Linalool ,Amyl Cinnamal ,Panthenol ,Limonene ,Geraniol ,Citronellol ,Propylene Glycol ,Vaccinium Angustifolia (Blueberry) Fruit Extract ,Panax Ginseng Root Extract ,Butylphenyl Methylpropional ,Methycloroisothiazolinone ,Methylisothiazolinone ,Cl 60730 (Ext. Violet 2) ,Cl 42090 (Blue 1)

Found this info on the Tesco website.

There are lots of others BTW, L'Oreal have brought out a new range but I think for a little boys hair where it's still pretty soft and silky you won't need that.

MrsMongoose · 19/09/2013 22:00

This might be really thick, but I'm going to ask anyway.

What is wrong with silicone?

Snatchoo · 19/09/2013 22:01

I think it's the anti-oxidant ones that are cone free.

Try www.britishcurlies.co.uk/curl_forum/ for more info. They've got a whole topic devoted to products!

BringOn2014 · 19/09/2013 22:01

I do the same for DDs hair and got a bottle of Organics in boots which was labelled on the bottle as silicone free. It really has mde a huge difference to her hair and I can tell when DH has forgotten and shampooed her hair!

QVC sell Wen by Chaz Dean
I haven't tried it but it's popular in the USA.
It's a cleanser rather than a shampoo . It is ££ but it's a big bottle and QVC do a 30 Day Money Back Guarentee.

Though for a DS with scruffy surfer hair I'd recommend a barber with clippers Wink
