Knee high boots - - frumpy??

On all the websites I have recently been looking at all the outfits are styled with ankle boots.

Would knee high boots look too mumsy and dated?

Oh good god this is getting ridiculous.

Is nothing sacred. Confused

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 18/09/2013 23:40

No.Ankle boots often look silly and very very young imo

MmmmWhiteWine · 18/09/2013 23:43

I love both....

I think that knee high boots are very stylish with skinnies tucked in, skirts and dresses (maxis or whatever).

InsertBoringName · 19/09/2013 07:39

I have big feet and ankle boots with dresses/skirts look awful on me! But I agree their's not so many around these days! I always just go with what suits me though, honestly you'll feel much more comfortable and look better!

InsertBoringName · 19/09/2013 07:40

Not so many knee highs I mean!

holidayseeker · 19/09/2013 09:17

Thanks for the replies, I seem to be on a never ending boot search at the moment. I always had knee high before but noticing less of them but also struggle with a lot of pairs as my calves won't fit in them. I have looked on duo as recommended on here but a bit too expensive.

I have tried a few pairs of ankle boots on which I liked but I always find it hard to change style so haven't brought any. I remember when I wanted knee high boots it took me about 3 years after everyone else to wear them as I get stuck in a style rut but then when I brought the knee highs loved them and thought to myself why did I not do this earlier.

I have ordered a pair of knee highs in Clark's which have come in so I will go try those after work.

Ankle boots have been having a moment the last few years but tall boots are a classic that don't go out of style. There was a section on tall black riding boots in this month's Elle as well.

LondonNinja · 19/09/2013 11:41

Wear what suits you! Style is not the same as fashion.

Funny that, I was the same ad you op, took me ages to adjust to a new fashion style. I'm just glad midi skirts are back on trend cause I look out of proportion at five foot nine in skirts above the knee.

MrsDavidBowie · 19/09/2013 12:01

Well I am wearing knee high riding boots today and I look amazing.Grin

cloutiedumpling · 19/09/2013 12:07

I am short and stumpy but I love knee high boots with skirts and dresses. I think ankle boots just make me look stumpier unless I wear them with trousers.

PoshPaula · 19/09/2013 12:27

No, knee high boots are not mumsy or dated. As with every other item of clothing and footwear it depends on the style of the item and the wearer.

liquidstate · 19/09/2013 12:34

Try evans for knee highs - I got a pair last year for £60 when they had a 15% off weekend.

Am going to buy a flat pair at duo this year, despite not really having the money because I think they will be a good investment.

flipchart · 19/09/2013 12:35

It depends on the boots and what you wear them with surely?

YellowbelliedSapsucker · 19/09/2013 12:39

Not dated and whether they're frumpy depends on the boots and what you're wearing them with. I've been boot shopping this week and there are tons of knee highs in the shops! So wear them and enjoy :) I know what you mean about everything being styled with ankle boots atm, but it's just because they look a bit more edgy, especially when a model is managing to pull them off with long, skinny, bare legs and a dress.

NoComet · 19/09/2013 12:43

Ankle boots mostly look stupid with a skirt unless the skirt is above your knees, you are tall, thin, young and hip.

I'm non of these things, but I have small feet and slim ankles.

Ankle boots flapping about at the top, small gap then long skirt look absolutely stupid!

Unless I can get some really nice Victorian type lace up boots I'm sticking to long ones.

NoComet · 19/09/2013 12:46

Xpost Yellow.
That's exactly it, most of us haven't a models legs and if we are wearing boots, we don't want bare legs!

holidayseeker · 19/09/2013 13:09

Well I'll be wearing mine with skinny jeans/jeggings and jumpers. I think it is my calf size that is limiting me so the knee high styles I like don't fit, hopefully I'll have some luck tonight.

I have a few pairs of marco tozzi knee highs, great quality shoes. I buy mine in a local shoe shop but theres a few places online selling them

WildThongsHeartString · 19/09/2013 13:53

I've posted before about these, they are brilliant for the money and stretchy enough for wide calves. M&S also have some nice boots under £50 but unlike the Asda boots are not leather.

YellowbelliedSapsucker · 19/09/2013 14:00

Btw StarBall I saw a few pairs of slightly Victorian looking lace up boots in Dune the other day, including a very pretty pair of lace up boot brogue things...sounds odd but I liked them!

Spookey80 · 19/09/2013 17:21

I ink if you wear em with a knee length denim skirt and fleece then they can look frumpy.
Its all about how you style them.....in my opinion.

Spookey80 · 19/09/2013 17:22

However..I find ankle boots don't keep me warm enough when its really cold?
