Didrikson Taylor Parker

I'm looking for a new (warm + waterproof) winter coat and have my eye on the Didrikson Taylor parker. Does anyone have one? Nowhere near me stocks them, so will have to buy online. Just wondering if anyone can advise on what the sizing is like? I am a size 8/10, I've read on here that Didrikson coats come up quite big, do people usually size down?

Thanks in advance.

The Didrikson Taylor also caught my eye :-) They've only just been sent out to UK stockists. I pre ordered mine from Viking Kids (£179.50) who called today to say they'd arrived. She told me that this season Didrikson have adjusted their sizes so that they now come up just right. I should get mine on Wednesday this wk so (labour permitting... eek!) I'll try to remember to post what I think about the coat.

I just ordered one of these in a 38 which arrived today. Although I am a size 12 it was a tad tight on my hips so I've sent it back and asked for a 40. I do hope it's not too big when the replacement arrives. The 38 fitted nicely across my shoulders but didn't really allow for any jumpers underneath (I tried it on wearing shorts & vest top - t'was hot here today!)

Btw it's £20 cheaper from

Laws of Kirkcudbright

Sorry to gatecrash- cab anyone tell me if the fur around the hood is detachable?

PestoSwimissimos · 23/09/2013 20:20

I didn't look, but I will when my replacement coat comes.

New coat arrived, amazing one day turn around service!

Anyhoo, yes, the fur surround is attached by a series of buttons so can be removed Smile

Spookey80 · 25/09/2013 12:22

Thanks pesto. Now....,..what's it like? Fit? Colour? Details please!

Northumberlandlass · 25/09/2013 12:28

OOO [excited emotion] I am awaiting the delivery of my Taylor Parka too !!

PestoSwimissimos · 25/09/2013 12:30

It's huge on me as I'm short. But it's extremely cosy, lovely material - soft and a great pillar box red colour.

The only thing I'm not 100% happy about is the large front pockets, as personally I prefer to slip my hand in side ones. However, they're don't bother me enough to return the coat though. It's lovely Smile

My Didrikson Taylor arrived today :-) I'm typically an 8 up top & 10 on my bottom half. I ordered the size 8. It fits nicely across the top. Across the bottom it's a bit hard to say as I'm 39 wks pregnant but I think post pregnancy it might be a bit snug so I'm debating whether to swap for a 10. What I would add is how gorgeous the coat is. Lovely shape, very cosy and I like the lining - I ordered the Navy & the lining is Green with some Red detailing. Re the fur trim that's detachable from the hood which is sewn into the coat. I hope that helps. Any other questions do let me know.

Hovis, I don't know if yours is the newer model (as mentioned below - have they changed the sizing?) but I got mine a couple of months ago (from Laws) and I'm normally a 10, occasionally 12, and I got the 36. It is perfect - I'd never have got in it while pregnant, but I'm 5ft7 and around 9 stone and it's absolutely bang on.

I think 36 is the 8, so, unless yours is a newer model (not sure if Laws were selling off last years or something, they were so cheap) it should be Ok once you have popped, as it were Grin

Rooners · 25/09/2013 13:13

Actually it might depend on how soon you want to wear it though - it has taken me nearly 9 months to get back to here in terms of weight Blush

Rooners · 25/09/2013 13:14

I could easily get two jumpers under mine btw.

Maybe they have adjusted the sizing...!

Hovis1980 · 25/09/2013 14:33

Thanks Rooners :-) and good point re thinking about how soon I want to wear the coat. I called Viking Kids just now to ask them. They said that this season Didrikson had changed the sizing (so customers don't need to go down a size - which Viking Kids found to be the case when they tried them on) & they were only sent this season's stock of Taylors on Monday. But I don't know if perhaps Laws had this season's Didrikson sent out earlier? I've decided to try the 10 as the 8 was snug mid-thigh (where the zipper starts on my body shape) & I'm not sure how much weight I'll lose there post pregnancy ... I've always been quite an awkward in between sizes pear shape Blush which means an 8 often fits up top but not on the bottom & vice a versa!

I decided I wanted a Didrikson parka after reading old MN threads from last year. I got the black Veronica from Laws and it arrived today. I'm really delighted with it. It was clearly last year's stock because there were only a few sizes available, so I sized down as people recommended last year and the fit was excellent - I'm normally a 12-14 so I chose a 38 (10). No idea whether the Taylors on Laws' website are this year's stock or last year's though! It clearly makes a difference with regard to the sizing.

I am impressed with Laws' delivery as I only ordered the parka yesterday and it arrived today.

I bought the Didrkson Taylor in Black today from outdoorworlddirect. The service I received was excellent. I e-mailed and phoned them for advice, both times the staff couldn't do enough. I wore my new coat tonight to a local bonfire and the weather was awful. Torrential rain, I came home dry, love the coat. Lovely material.
