Tights that actually keep your feet warm ....

MrsMcEnroe · 15/09/2013 17:36

.... Is there such a thing?

Wolford and Brora have lovely cashmere tights but at £125 and £59 respectively per pair they are not in my budget ...

I get really cold toes (I have Raynaud's) and I NEED tights that will keep me warm! I want to glide elegantly through winter in dresses and tights, not jeans and snow boots!

Help??

Do you plan to wear them with shoes or boots? If boots then Primark do "boot tights" which have proper socks on the foot bit but change to tights at the ankle, if you know what I mean. Very cosy.

MrsMcEnroe · 15/09/2013 17:50

OooH!!! Do they? Boot tights, what a fab idea Grin

I would like some warm tights that I can wear with shoes too though - do they exist?

They do exist. I think I saw a blog post last week on them. Primark did them last year but I hate their tights so didn't buy. The blog post ones were fancier. I'll have a look for you in a while

hettie · 15/09/2013 17:58

John Lewis do nice wool ones..

EeyoreIsh · 15/09/2013 18:04

m&s did some amazingly warm wool mix tights last year. They didn't even get holes in them after lots of wear.

lurkingaround · 15/09/2013 18:34

Can't find that blogpost I mentioned. But this is them (excuse the grammered) bootights

Hopasholic · 15/09/2013 18:57

Primark also do fleece lined tights. Bought some but I've not tried them yet....... £3.50 a pair Smile

AlfalfaMum · 15/09/2013 18:59

Zara do nice cosy bamboo ones.

VarsityQueen · 15/09/2013 19:02

These have some great reviews

Primark fleece lined tights are the best thing ever. They keep your feet and legs so toasty. I need to go and stock up actually.

If anyone has girls they do kids ones too. Infact if you are a size 10 or less and 5' 4 or shorter, you will fit into kids ones!

MrsMcEnroe · 15/09/2013 19:03

Hhhmmm those bootights have nylon/spandex/polyester feet, so they won't keep my feet warm Sad ... I need wool or fleece feet unfortunately.

I'm not convinced such a thing exists. Maybe I should invent them and go on Dragons' Den??

Fleece lined tights are your friend.

They have a selection of varieties in TK Maxx (not sure if they'll have them in yet).

MrsMcEnroe · 15/09/2013 19:05

Mmmmm those fleece ones are exactly what I need BUT they can't be black!! I will have to check out Primark, and I'd better do it soon given the change in the weather today!

Bamboo .... oooh. I like the sound of those too.

Levante, Trasparenze do wool tights in a range of colours.

I wear them with Nordvek sheepskin insoles

And there's nothing like sheepskin boots for warmth.

GobblersKnob · 15/09/2013 19:36

Uniqlo do Heattech tights.

Also second sheepskin insoles, Celtic do gorgeous ones.

littlemisswise · 15/09/2013 19:38

They do different coloured ones too MrsMcEnroe.

LillyNotOfTheValley · 15/09/2013 19:39

Uniqlo heattech line! Cheap and so warm. You can order online. There is no going back after trying those on.

OldRoan · 15/09/2013 19:40

Ooh, also interested in people's suggestions.

I had some lovely M&S woolly tights last year. I bought 5 pairs which all got holes in by the second wearing. I should have taken them back but I'd binned the receipt by then. John Lewis tights never, ever stay up on me. Very jealous of people who can wear them because they are very snuggly.

Pandsbear · 15/09/2013 20:24

Ah a obsessional topic for me (also have Raynaud's). Primark fleece lined ones were great last winter - but shaped like a tube so baggy round my ankles. Good for boots, not so lovely with shoes.

M&S merino wool are also good but not as warm I don't think. Variety of colours a few years ago but last winter they only seemed to have black and dark grey.

Uniqlo heattech - I haven't tried the tights/leggings. I have wool socks that I wear over tights (under boots).

And also yes to the Celtic Sheepskin insoles if you can get them in your boots!

mewkins · 15/09/2013 20:28

I just wear high denier tights, thermal socks over the top (as pretty much only wear boots all winter) and sometimes sheepskin insoles. All my boots are a bit bigso this works out ok.

Do wool tights go bobbly?

Spookey80 · 15/09/2013 20:56

Last winter I doubled up my 100 denier opaques and this was really warm.
So I wore 2 pairs at once ifyswim.

cookielove · 15/09/2013 21:00

I have a couple pairs of fleece lined tights. Wore them yesterday at a wedding as it was nippy out. Got mine from sainsburys. I got mine in black but I think they do other colours.

PeerMon · 15/09/2013 21:09

I second Primark fleecy lines tight! £3.50, bargain Smile

MrsMcEnroe · 15/09/2013 23:02

Right, I have had a little online shopping spree this evening Blush and I have bought:

Aristoc 100 denier cashmere blend tights
Falke soft merino tights
Fleecy socks (to wear over tights and under boots)
Thermal leggings & long-sleeved top
Pretty Polly 200 denier fleecy footless tights (to wear under jeans, with thick socks)

  • all the above from figleaves.com

I couldn't find the Levante ones in the colours I wanted, but they do look really nice.

I spent last winter constantly wrapped in a coat, scarf and gloves at work, as my shop has no double glazing or central heating and my oil-filled radiators just didn't pump out enough heat, so my next big job is to sort out some decent heaters for this winter.

I've also ordered some Nordvek sheepskin insoles from Amazon. And now I'm off to hunt for Uniqlo heat tech and Zara bamboo tights! And to see if I can justify buying myself a new pair of Uggs....
