Stuck zip (very cross)

Please help wise S and Bers!
So my bridesmaid dress arrived from eBay (wedding not til next year, thankfully) and the zip is stuck!
My go-to for anything stuck is WD 40, but the dress is a beautiful turquoise chiffon and if I spoil it with grease marks I'll be gutted.
It's a really delicate zip and material. What can I doooo?

Isn't rubbing a wax candle on it supposed to help?

My grandma once rubbed a normal lead pencil up and down the zip of a top I was stuck in, that worked.

Is the material caught underneath the zip?

Can you get a cotton bud and some Vaseline. Work it into the teeth and work the zipper up and down.

I don't think so, I've had a good look and it doesn't seem that anything is stuck under it.
I'll try a pencil, then a candle...

Now the zip has moved but it's not fastening, iyswim. Just going up and down.
Grr!
I can't try it on properly without the zip but I've got a horrible feeling its going to be too big.
