Biker Jacket-Yay or Nay?

I've been searching, admiring and debating this for a couple of seasons now,do I get a leather biker jacket? Its just that on occasions I think are they on the edge of 'Mutton' territory? on anyone over say 35? I just think they say 'look at me i'm getting on but can still wear this, and a bit too try hard? Despite this I still fancy one and maybe go for a brown/grey colour instead of black. Does anyone else feel like this or is it just me who's behind the times!

They're fab - I'm 41 and have a navy one that I've just bought

I think they're trans generational - would look equally good on a hippy 70 year old like the attractive older woman on the M and S adverts

missmartha · 14/09/2013 13:28

I love mine, it's black I was wearing it only this morning.

I'll never see 41 again btw and think they suit so many styles and shapes.

There are lots of gorgeous grey and oxblood ones out there which are a bit of a softer look if you feel like black leather is a bit harsh. But no, totally not mutton, I plan to wear the black one I invested in last year for decades!

macandcheesewithbaconbits · 14/09/2013 17:39

I am 34 and I am thinking in investing one.
I think it depends on what you are wearing it with. I was wearing a cotton blazer with skinnies and a white tshirt when I tried a very nice one on and I was surprised at how good it looked.

RockMummy · 14/09/2013 18:27

They are a great investment. I am still wearing the one I bought in GAP when on maternity leave. DS is 10 in November!

I'm over 40 and love mine. I get oodles of compliments when I wear it.

RainbowBob · 14/09/2013 18:58

I don't think age is an issue, if it looks good on you then go for it! Having said that, I had to stop wearing mine after I turned up wearing it to a family party and my brothers took the piss relentlessly asking if I was auditioning for the role of Danny in Grease....then kept singing 'Grease Lightening' every time I walked in the room. Clearly my jacket wasn't creating quite the impression I was intending.... It's now been ebayed and I've bought a jersey one instead

I have a lovely grey one from River Island, I will wear it until it falls apart

permaquandry · 14/09/2013 20:54

I'm over the hill-- not a youngster and I have 3 pu ones from Zara (that look like real levver, honest guv) and a fabric one from Whistles.

Go for it.

permaquandry · 14/09/2013 20:55

Ah look, trying to be clever and I failed miserably. Was supposed to read..... I'm over the hill not a youngster.....

ThePuffyShirt · 14/09/2013 21:04

I love my biker jacket. I have the Whistles one from last A/W.

I wear it with my MN or a Becksondergaard scarf. I am a cliché.

Zoidberg · 14/09/2013 21:12

I just started wearing mine again last year after a couple of years umming and erring about being rather old, and love it, though cannot do it up Blush Bought it in a secondhand shop when I was 16 (that was just about in the 90s)
