Teen lip waxing

My 13 year old has her upper lip waxed - it seems to need doing every week now.. Any alternative suggestions what she do instead please? Will it ever slow down?

I buy my daughter the mitts from the pound shop. They are like fine sandpaper but are very gentle but effective.
