nice Autumn jacket for dumpy person

I'm in my 40s, size 8/10 and 5'3" with a dumpy appearance.

I'd like a nice Autumn jacket - warm, casual but not frumpy but I just can't seem to think/find anything suitable.

My budget is up to £100 for the right thing.

I recently had my long hair cut off and now look like Sandi Toksvig (apologies to Sandi Toksvig - great broadcaster but perhaps not a style icon).

Why do you think you have a dumpy appearance? I have a personal interest as I am also in my forties, 5 ft 3'' and size 8-10. Am now a bit worried Wink. I'm sure you're not really dumpy though and Sandi T is a lot bigger than a size 8-10!

I'm sorry I can't help with the jacket though. Strangely enough, I try to avoid coats that stop at the waist, because I am also long waisted/short legged and they tend to emphasise that. Probably make me look a bit dumpy actually.

What would you recommend, then?

I look all right in fitted things, but the second I wear anything slightly baggy I look totally square (in both senses of the word!).

Blimey, you're a size smaller and an inch taller than me and I don't consider myself dumpy!! I do think fitted clothes are better on short people though.

Zoe789 · 11/09/2013 11:51

oh just realised I have just repeated what you just said! so true though.

I'm a10/12 on the bottom and I like to go as small as I can get away with with a coat. obviously I like to be able to lift my arms Wink but go small to look tall. also, knee length coats give a more elongated 'body'. imo. i'm going for a knee length fitted coat.

What about a fitted leather jacket?

lainiekazan · 11/09/2013 12:49

I have tried a few leather jackets but thought I looked a bit like a footballer's (first) wife.

What about this?

Grin at the footballers (first) wife (though I'm still convinced you're too harsh on yourself).

I think that jacket has potential actually as it looks well cut. I would probably want to try it on first, but as it's free delivery and 15% off at the moment (with code Fall) then why not give it a go?

Like Zoe, I usually go for knee length coats but I do like that one.
