Work clothes - work in a car garage

I work in the office of a car garage and I am now starting to freeze as it is getting cooler and we have the workshop doors open all the time.

I need help on what clothes to get that will keep me warm but not look too bulky ( by this I mean body warmers etc) and that still looks smartish and ok to take kids to school wearing. As it is a car garage there is oil, grease, dirt etc so also need to not spend too much money.

Warm undies! For example, a merino wool vest under your usual clothes.
And how about some boots in a larger size, so you can wear thicker socks?

Layers, layers and more layers. Scarves and warm boots will save you.

Great, thanks for the quick suggestions. I never thought about a good vest that's a great suggestion.

The reason I seem to find it so hard to dress suitably is because I have always liked thin material dresses and thin jumpers for as far back as I can remember so I do need to get myself into chunkier clothes and layering is definitely what I need to do thanks.
