If I'm a 'winter'...

...is it a big NO-NO to get some brown knee-high boots? I know they won't be near my face so it won't matter too much from that point of view but I'm not sure if I'll be able to style them effectively.

Hmmmm.

Yes its a no no - brown is hard to style with winter colours anyway.

theresmoretolife · 09/09/2013 21:26

But if you buy brown boots they won't go with anything else surely? If I were a winter I wouldn't. Black or grey would be lots easier.

ouryve · 09/09/2013 21:28

If you have very dark hair, or have it dyed deep red, like mine (so temporarily have a hint of autumn), then very dark brown a greyish mid brown boots wouldn't look out of place with plummy/berry colours and/or teal or dark green.

Aside from the hairdye job, I'm a pretty classic winter. Don't tell anyone, but amongst my several pairs of glasses, I have a pair with bronzey coloured frames. They go with my freckles :o

KosherBacon · 09/09/2013 21:29

I am a winter and hate brown shows as they just don't go with anything in my wardrobe!

LaCerbiatta · 09/09/2013 21:31

Of course it's not a no-no! Brown boots go with most colours and I think are a lot easier to wear than blck. They're great with navy, grey, black, denim trousers / skirts and whatever colour on top.

ellesabe · 09/09/2013 21:38

Gah! But brown boot are soooo much nicer than black/grey! Pooh.

How on earth can it matter? Brown boots are lovely and are often easier to wear than black because they look better with more types of denim.
They also look good with navy tights, wine coloured tights, grey tights and can be okay with black too.

mypavlova · 09/09/2013 21:41

what shade brown? a really deep bitter chocolate or a cool taupe-ish shade could be versatile for you.

With brown shoes, even long before I knew why (because I'm a winter) I found them hard to mix and match or make the most of wearing.

Theoretically they should be fine as they are not near your face, but do they go well with your wardrobe? I do get much more out of the above two colours though.

ellesabe · 09/09/2013 21:44

I was thinking of something like these

LakeFlyPie · 09/09/2013 21:47

I reckon they'd work with navy, but not so much with the bright 'jewel' colours that usually suit "winters"

DebrisSlide · 09/09/2013 21:51

Of course you can wear brown!

I am very much a winter and wear chocolate brown with other stuff mixed in, like those boots. They would go fine. That said, I wear brown in an "outfit" kind of way, rather than just chucking stuff on like I do the rest of my winter stuff. But people always comment when I wear it. That may be because I don't just chuck it on, though...

FuckyNell · 09/09/2013 21:57

So what is a 'winter' actually?

I have dark brown hair, green eyes and mid toned --sallow- skin.

I guess I may be winter too.

Brown looks rough on me Grin

mypavlova · 09/09/2013 22:04

I think those would be great with denim or navy as LakeFlyPie suggested. Depends on what other colors you wear as bottoms. Love the style, very wearable and versatile.

where do you stand with orange/apricot/coral fuckynell? That's the acid test imo. Never met an orange I could wear. Or camel Hmm

Kezztrel · 09/09/2013 22:09

I'm a winter and wear dark brown knee high boots in winter...they go with everything. Lovely with dark denim and my navy pea coat and pretty much any jumper colour...

Kezztrel · 09/09/2013 22:12

Agree re orange and camel (and all beiges!) being the acid test for a winter mypavlova! So awful on me.

Saffyz · 09/09/2013 22:19

I think you'd get away with a dark bitter chocolate colour or a dark greyish taupe, as boots are not near your face.

QueenCadbury · 09/09/2013 22:33

As a winter I personally wouldn't buy brown boots but that's because I don't like then but also they wouldn't go with the rest of my clothes. But I'm a bright winter so think cobalt etc.

If you wear the more red/burgundy type colours then brown should tone in ok.

Get them and try them on with several outfits. If they don't work then you can return them?

Rules · 10/09/2013 00:01

Brown is the perfect colour for winter boots IF you wear colours that go with the shade of Brown.

BitchyRestingFace · 10/09/2013 00:38

I am probably a winter and you would have to pry my collection of brown boots from my cold, dead hands.

Hopefully · 10/09/2013 08:21

I would try to find a pair that are at least a less rich, warm brown than the ones linked. Maybe a darker, more bitter chocolate, or a more taupey colour. Not because they're not going to match your skin, but because they're going to look cheaper and less stylish than they are the minute you pair them with any of the jewel colours in your palette. If you stick to the burnished/sultry winter colours (burgundy, pine green, charcoal, mole, stone etc etc etc), then a bitter brown wouldn't be too bad. There's quite often mole or charcoal boots available in winter though, and that would have the less-formal-than-black look without failing to match 3/4 of your palette?
