Happy to help. Tights are not only acceptable but mandatory, so no issue with that.
I cannot link on my phone but Reiss seems to have plenty of choice in their outlet section. Some dresses are £70. You can go for a simple cut in a classic colour and then accessorize "wedding style", you will fit perfectly in and bonus you will be able to wear the dress again at other occasions.

Yama · 08/09/2013 16:55

Thanks AWimBaWay. Think I'll go short.

And I meant 'advice' in my last post, don't know what happened.

I tell you, it's hard work being a woman. Dh just packs his kilt and is good to go.

Okay - I'm in Reiss Outlet website.

As, I clearly clueless you are going to have to keep me right.

What about [http://www.reiss.com/womens/reiss-sale/dresses/fiorella/coral/ this]]?

I would personally steer clear of Coast,as is liable to be the go to shop or guests at such a wedding. I agree that a shorter dress would probably be more the thing too.

House of Fraser normally has loads of different dresses, maybe worth a loo.

MarianForrester · 08/09/2013 17:05

Loo? Look,I mean.

I like reiss, and great delivery and returns, was very impressed recently.

I like this dress better though m.reiss.com/womens/dresses/ainsley/black/

Yama · 08/09/2013 17:06

or this?

Marian - I'll look up House of Fraser now. Thanks for the tip.

Ooh, I love that dress Marian. Why can't it be in the sale?

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/09/2013 17:14

Love that one, Marian.

First Reiss one looks quite worky to me. Don't like the second one. I was also linking to long because of the original links.

LillyNotOfTheValley · 08/09/2013 17:25

The Fiorella one is the perfect style, you got it OP ;) This one would work too: www.reiss.com/womens/reiss-sale/dresses/carberry/grey-blue/
I would not wear black at a wedding in October, as it is not completely winter.

Regarding DH and kilts - I know, I am married to a Scot. It is extremely frustrating the hunt down an outfit when they just have to pack their kilt. By the way, you can maybe choose a dress that matches the tartan depending on it colours?

Yama · 08/09/2013 17:30

I really do like the Fiorella and I know I suit that colour. I know what you mean about it being worky though Remus.

Nothing like dh's tartan unfortunately. I have worn a lot of green and purple over the years to coordinate with him.

The other dress you linked to Lilly would probably wash me out - I'm very blonde.

tethersend · 08/09/2013 17:39

Can you stretch the budget to this? Perhaps sell a kidney?

Yama · 08/09/2013 17:45

Tethersend - that's lovely. I'm afraid it might look frumpy on me though.

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/09/2013 17:46

I want somebody to buy this but it is expensive. Lovely though.

tethersend · 08/09/2013 17:52

That's gorgeous, Remus.

Zoe789 · 08/09/2013 17:53

I went to an autumn wedding in a castle and it was cold. there were lots of girlies standing around trying not to look freezing. I had a cord patchwork skirt on and a muted red jacket over a nice black top and it might have looked a bit formal but I was the only woman that was warm enough. I think some cheeky article tried to buy my jacket off me. I was staying overnight in the castle too and there was no respite from the cold.

i'd go back to the drawing board and look for long sleeve dresses that look good with boots and a nice jacket

worsestershiresauce · 08/09/2013 17:58

I know very little about style and beauty other than long evening dresses are a big no. You'd probably be mistaken for one of the bridesmaids, and the bride might get a bit Hmm about it. Assuming she is a bridezilla type that is. Even is she's not she'd think you were being a bit upstagey.

I got married in a castle, and even in the middle of summer the guests all wore knee length dresses with coats or jackets and I froze half to death wearing an evening dress more along the lines of your choices above.

I also went to a winter wedding in a castle, and again it was knee length with coats and tights.

Yama · 08/09/2013 18:07

Oh Remus - I love that dress. I've just shown it to dh and he says to get it.

My only reservation is that the model is 5'10" and is wearing a 40 (size 6). I'm 5'6" and would probably go for the 44 (size 12). Will it be too long on me?

And how would I accessorise? Tights are a must.

OP posts:
Yama · 08/09/2013 18:12

Thanks Zoe and Worsester. I've been talked out of long. Which is a good thing because I suit short.

The Vivienne Westwood is front runner. I have never been so indulgent before so I might not. Also, I don't know which size out of a 10 and a 12 would be better.

OP posts:
MarianForrester · 08/09/2013 18:18

I too love that VW dress- can't help with sizing but it looks perfect.

tethersend · 08/09/2013 18:24

gold shoes would work well.

Would have to be with nude tights though.

Yama · 08/09/2013 18:35

Tethersend - that link was back to the green dress. Smile

I'm going to mull it over. If I went for the Fiorella I'd be £160 better off. The VW is perfect though and now that I have seen it ...

Thanks for all of your help guys. It's between 2 dresses now. And 2 dresses which are far and away better than the ones I found.

OP posts:
lurkingaround · 08/09/2013 18:45

Oh get the Remus one. It is gorgeous. Get that one. I think you'd please so many of us here (yes that's the point lurking). We can live vicariously thru you. Grin

Seriously tho, I love that dress. It is fab. With a bit of luck it'll be plush and warm in the castle.

Yama · 08/09/2013 18:56

I've only gone and done it! Ordered the Vivienne Westwood.

On the proviso that if it just isn't worth it I'll send it back.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/09/2013 18:58

VWs tend to come up a bit big, so the 10 should be fine.
