Outfit for an October wedding - truly no idea where to start!

I've just read a few winter wedding threads and I've realised that I should seriously get moving on finding myself an outfit for a wedding mid October. I admit I'm fashion clueless, I buy anything I like that's cheap/practical/comfy/second hand and have no particular style, just never really had the confidence or money to get into fashion Grin

I've been very impressed with the collective MN style knowledge and would really appreciate some help putting together an outfit or I'll just end up putting it off til the last minute and panic buying something I don't like, like usual

I'm about a size 14, fairly tall and definitely hourglass, also I was told I'm "bright autumn" when someone did my colours. The wedding is relaxed style, autumn colours.

Thanks in advance Smile

Oh black is fine for weddings these days, esp in winter - don't worry about that. Just make sure yr accessories aren't too 'officey'.

Screwfox - hmm, might be squeezing myself into the 10 in khaki of that dress, as the 12 is sold out...

Not sure about the colour but I like the shape. It would be lovely with a cropped, faux mink jacket thing.

I'm also an hourglass size 14 with big boobs! Or at least a I am when not pregnant.

If you like that original dress (or similar) you can fake the more flattering v/scoop neck look with a statement necklace. I can't link for my phone but Topshop often have something you can wear over the dress which breaks up the expanse of fabric.

My initial thought was a shift dress - it's my go to shape for dresses.

Best of luck.

Love this but it would be terrible on me.

Both those dresses are GREAT colours for autumns Remus - and the brown looks super easy to wear. Good price too. Definitely one for the list OP.

Hmm, do not want to buy TWO unnecessary dresses of someone else's thread.

I do like that brown one Remus! Think it could be really flattering. Even the colour although I think I'm supposed to wear brighter colours according to the colour reading thing I had done? Does that matter? Could I wear it with brown ballet pumps which I already have

Just remembered DH is wearing brown as best man (all the blokes are in brown, not sure about the bridesmaids). Is that good or bad?

Anything - I imagine a shift dress would be versatile for different dos...

Pashminas can be got very cheaply - if you get a bright autumn colour, and wear big gold jewellry (again, can be v cheap, New Look is full of chunky gold at the mo) I don't think you would look too brown with DH. Diff colour shoes would be good, but donlt think brown ballet pumps would be a disaster.

Anyway - if you order it now you can send it back. Kaliko is free delivery so nowt to lose.

I may have gone mad but might something like this work over the brown dress?. Personally I think it needs heels, not ballet shoes.

If you didn't want to be too brown, it might work with bright pink or a burnt orange, perhaps?

Love that Remus - and love the idea of tapestry/brocade at a winter wedding.

Obv heels are the weddingy look, but if OP never wears then, then ballet flats are a good option.

Can't seem to get that Remus, it just takes me to the home site but I am on a mobile. Do you have the name/code please and I'll look it up. Thanks

Thanks for the coordination advice Charity. And about free delivery... Does everyone think that one is best then or the blue ones too? Which one looks least mumsy, I know I look mumsy easily Grin

It's the Tabitha Tapestry jacket. I haven't seen it irl and it might well be hideous, but it does look as if it might work with the dress.

Fish and Lilacs - thanks for the suggestions, the first dress seems a bit short for my "sturdy" legs Hmm the Rockabily one is cute but not sure I could pull off the whole look, make up etc

So far my favourites are the blue coast dress, the brown one, the black eBay one and the wine coloured gathered one with long sleeves I think Smile
