I'm getting a thigh tattoo TOMORROW.

It's not a new thing as I booked it months ago, had the design drawn by my tattoo artist and he's got my notes on the changes I'd like but it appears to have come by so quickly. It's all paid for as he's done my previous three tattoos and I'm a bit scared now.

I have a tattoo on both wrists and the nape of my neck but this is my first big piece on the top and outside of my right thigh. Has anyone had one here? What's the pain like? It'll take about two hours to do the outline.

I had one done about 20 years ago now on the outside of my left thigh, and although it hurt a bit it is small and I don't remember it being too bad at all - I had a bit of erm, padding so maybe that was it!

I've got a lot of padding so I'm hoping it won't be too bad. It's something I've planned for 7 years and looks just as I imagined it so I'm not going to pull out of it. I have some paracetamol to take beforehand.

I got lyrics on my thigh 3-4 weeks ago bit nippy but wasn't agony, you will be fine promise

It's healed perfectly and not sore at all, my tattoo artist wrapped it in cling film once it was done told me to keep it on until that night take it off wash with warm soapy water pat it dry and then wrap cling film round loosely again, take it off in the morning and leave it until night and start using bepanthane 2-3times a day, mines was healed within a week and a half

I'm really nervous now as it's in an hour. I just don't want the pain to be unbearable to the point I move/have to stop for breaks all the time/make a fool out of myself. I've got the nape of my neck and both of my wrists tattooed which weren't bad at all but they were small and took no more than half an hour whereas the outline of this will take 2-3.

I have a large calf tattoo that took a couple of hours in total, though it sounds like yours will be bigger. After 20 minutes or so, it just goes numb and it just irritating rather then painful. For the first painful bit, breath slowly and evenly and relax as much as is humanly possible, keep reminding yourself.

Take water to sip constantly, and sweets to suck, don't be afraid to ask for a break if you need one, you will not look like a fool! With a tattoo that size the tattooist will need breaks too obviously.

Quit while you're ahead. Three is enough. You'll look like a toddler took a biro to you.

Zoe I don't think OP asked for opinions on whether to do it or not. Personally I don't like tattoos and would never have one, but I wouldn't offer an opinion on whether someone else should unless it was asked for.

Do get back to us & let is know how it was, I am intrigued as to how a tattoo is 'done' these days. I sound old, like very old but I'm only 40! I had mine done when I was 24, so quite some time ago & it took about 3 hours. Unfortunately I've fallen out of love with mine & it's a ball ache having to hide it in the summer as its on my arm. I approached a reputable tattooist who can cover it (removing it is far too costly). The tattooist who I spoke to explained that they used different 'needles'/machines/methods' now as opposed to what would of been used on my old tattoo. I'm guessing it may be quicker now than it use to be? I know its more expensive! So how did it turn out?
