Posh shorts for a winter wedding - where do I start?

Pretty informal friends wedding in mid November, registry office then pub. Thought some smart shorts with a loose-ish top with either a boat or cowl neck would work. Am a size 16 with reasonable legs but unfortunately an apple shape. Where would be good to start looking, feel a bit out of touch!

Like the shorts but not sure about the colour

tartan and leather

AmberNectarine · 02/09/2013 19:55

ASOS have a few styles. Those would be good for the mossy look.

MortifiedAdams · 02/09/2013 19:55

floral

babysaurus · 02/09/2013 20:00

I can't do tartan and leather! Well, certainly not leather.
Floral may be possible though.
Currently on asos which is proving quite inspirational. Thinking possibly (bear in mind I have ages to go) quite plain shorts with dressy top (which is quite loose with a round neck as that suits me.) I've some lovely semi chunky round toed heels in khaki green which would look good. Prob plain tights.
Hmmm...

Quite like these but the thick fabric might make me look bigger than I am....? With the right top and accessories they could maybe work (ie not black!)
Am also weirdly drawn to these as they basically look like a short skirt (I have a similar one and it looks great.) Might be too casual due to the fabric though...?

these with a coloured top, poss same red or blue in the print, could work but the buggers don't have them in my size (especially as hoping to be down to a 14 by then anyway.)
Grrr

Link to the Topshop moth print ones please? I can't find them.

OP - I like shorts in winter (but haven't worn them for a few years and am currently on the look out for some) but am really not sure I'd wear them for a wedding.

Do you intend wearing tights with them and, if so, what kind?

babysaurus · 02/09/2013 20:52

Definitely tights, yes. Not sure what though, depends on the rest of the outfit.

topshop moth shorts

I like shorts and tights too, in fact I wore some yesterday, but I'm not sure for a wedding and definite none of the ones you have linked to so far look suitable for a wefding OP.

trixymalixy · 02/09/2013 20:53

Shocking typing sorry

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/09/2013 20:55

Thanks, Trixy. Lovely print but I don't want shorts that show one's bum cheeks. Grin Want mid-thigh length really.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/09/2013 20:56

The ASOS ones are very casual looking (and not v nice tbh, imho).

trixymalixy · 02/09/2013 20:58

Aagh, I'm supposed to be having a no spend couple of months, but just looked at what else they had in that moth print. I could buy the lot, especially the skirt, and the trousers.

babysaurus · 02/09/2013 21:12

Second glance, I agree re the flowery ones. Think I'm getting shorts blindness!!

OP posts:
babysaurus · 02/09/2013 21:15

Can I ask, out of curiosity, why shorts aren't 'suitable' ? Is it the formality factor? Showing too much leg? What?

(I say again, while this is a wedding its basically a piss up in a boozer and the bride plans to wear jeans!)

OP posts:
trixymalixy · 02/09/2013 21:20

Just a bit too casual, but given the bride is wearing jeans I'm sure anything will go. I don't like the culotte ASOS ones you linked to as they look like festival wear.

SquidgyMummy · 02/09/2013 21:23

I think these lace shorts look fab and they have been styled in a winter way

babysaurus · 02/09/2013 21:25

If it was a traditional wedding I wouldn't wear them, but its not remotely. Think party rather than wedding.

Where are those lace ones from?

OP posts:
SquidgyMummy · 02/09/2013 21:27

I don't know, I just googled lace shorts; was linked to a style blog. Try googling "taupe lace shorts"

babysaurus · 02/09/2013 21:30

Ah, ok.

Think I've seen too many for one night, horrid ones are looking acceptable and they are also blurring into one!

Pinupgirl · 02/09/2013 21:39

I cant imagine any size 16 apple looking good in shorts and thats exactly the shape and size I am op! Go look for a nice dress.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/09/2013 21:54

These are nice.
And these
Would need to see these irl They look a bit too high-shine.

However, apart from the last pair, they look very short. I'm 5'2 and a size 12 and would be a bit worried about wearing them tbh.

trixymalixy · 02/09/2013 22:23

how about the bloggers favourite ?
