I'm back to work (school) next week and i need a new pair of shoes. Black, low heeled-not flat (get shin splints) OK to wear with skirts and trousers. Oh and not stupid money. That all went on DD's last ever school kit.

Will watch with interest as I have the same issue (returning to work from mat leave). I haven't been able to find any so far. I thought these might be OK, but I have quite wide feet so they weren't a brilliant fit. They've been reduced even more now. There are not many in stock online but the shops I've been into seem to have more stock.

Have you had a look on clarkes site? They have 20% off today with this code 'BNEW' I can recommend Coolest Berry Mary Janes very comfortable and because they have a strap great support and they come in 3 colours with a 2 - 3 inch heel great with skirts or trousers :) £ 39.99 less 20% also another brand I like is " heavenly feet" I've bought them in Scholl shop but available on Internet and independent retailers

Do you like brogues or the bouncy soled flatform shoes? Otherwise the low block heeled pumps might be a good choice.

These are practical;

as are these;

Brogues by Clarks.

Oh I also have a high instep so straps across top of foot are either too short or make my feet hurt. thanks for all the tips-clarks is first stop i think. i like brogues for trousers, but not so much for skirts. I love kitten heels-just right. shame they are now unfashionable.
