Dress for my 40th

withaspongeandarustyspanner · 26/08/2013 19:22

I'm celebrating my 40th at a party in November.

Currently, I'm exercising and dieting like crazy and I've lost about a stone. I'm hoping to lose more by then and I'm aiming to look fabulous in a size 12 rather than looking a bit snug and uncomfortable.

I'd like to be hour glass and I'm drawn to vintage styles (and I have a corset) but if the dress is right, it doesn't have to be vintage style at all.

I'm 5'7" and I have quite long/good legs still. I generally like knee length, though I'd go a little shorter.

I have pale-ish skin and dark hair cut in a bob.

I haven't got a huge budget - probably £150 or less. It would be nice to be able to wear it again, too.

Not sure if any of that information helps - I've probably missed something vital off :)

So, just looking for ideas - I'm open to suggestions.

And thanks

I'm rather liking this at the moment, at least.

And I like this but it's a bit over budget. Has anyone seen anything like it elsewhere for less?

I've looked at that dress too for a wedding and it is lovely... my only issue is I have to cover my upper arms and think a shrug or jacket would ruin it!

You sound stunning, have you looked at some of the vintage type websites, tiger milly / vivien of Holloway / deadly is the female

Good luck!

doineedhelp · 27/08/2013 11:23

it is a little over your budget but this sounds like it would suit your colouring

I've had a look at those websites for lots of other occasions (I tend to obsess about a certain style Grin) so I was trying to think of something outside my comfort zone. There are a few lovely deadly is the female dresses I've had my eye on for a while.

It's amazing how you can make yourself sound - not stunning at all :)

I LOVE that dress (one of the ones I've had my eye on!). And I love the colour. It's just not in my size - boo.

This or this?

Northumberlandlass · 27/08/2013 11:28

Hey - I wore this for my 40th! I'm 6ft tall & size 14 (trying to say I'm not slender Smile ) www.deadlyisthefemale.com/clothing/dresses/red-billion-dollar-baby-dress
Love it.
There is possibly still a pic on my profile.

tethersend · 27/08/2013 11:31

this also comes in black and red.

withaspongeandarustyspanner · 27/08/2013 11:33

And that's the other one I've had my eye on! Grin I love them both. Maybe this is my chance to splurge? Have you found an occasion to wear that dress again, Northumberlandlass?

There is also a dress that MrsArseBiscuit has...from Pin Up Girl..I think! It is fabulous.

withaspongeandarustyspanner · 27/08/2013 11:34

I have worn it again this summer for our Company fancy 'do'. It is a fabulous dress and the material is great, really holds me in Wink - be prepared to be noticed tho..it doesn't hide anything, although the slightly gathered waist is a great touch.

Deadly is the Female were great to buy from too, good service.

withaspongeandarustyspanner · 27/08/2013 11:40

I just looked at your photos - you look gorgeous! Well, if you can't be noticed on your 40th... :)

Thanks Smile - it took a lot of hard work & money (false tan / hair etc/ zumba classes / weights etc) tbh I have never been a wallflower Wink - it's a fab dress.

I'm trying to link to the pin up girl one for you....

Northumberlandlass · 27/08/2013 11:47

witha - here is a link to the other dress I like

I quite like it in green.

withaspongeandarustyspanner · 27/08/2013 12:01

Ooooooooooh. That's lovely.

The green is nice but it is on the yellow side wouldn't suit my skin tone. Love the teal.

Saw some fantastic dresses in the John Lewis' sale today (website). Gorgeous black one. Can't remember which, was £49 from £99.

I am loving this dress www.pinupgirlclothing.com/erin-wiggle-dress-black.html

withaspongeandarustyspanner · 28/08/2013 11:32

I loved that one, Sofia - it appealed to my inner Sophia Loren :)
