V neck jumper hunt

PretAPorter · 26/08/2013 00:18

I'm large of nork and looking for some classic v neck jumpers to wear with straight or bootcut/flared jeans and cords this autumn/winter.

Anyone seen anything remotely matching this description?

  • longline (at least 65cm long - not that all online sites deign to tell you the length!)
  • v neck (reasonably deep - most men's v neck jumpers are too high, no good for big boobs)
  • ideally a reasonable cotton or wool content. Viscose next best but ideally no higher than 20% nylon or polyester as I would wear next to the skin
  • nothing dry clean only
  • a range of colours - I'm an autumn so browns, greens, oranges etc. No grey or black
  • nothing too 80s/batwing/sweatshirty. I am looking for boring classic and timeless
  • up to £75

The Tommy Hilfger ones in HoF are too short or they would be perfect.

This one in Matalan are the best I've found so far but they don't seem very long lasting (viscose liable to shrink) and I would prefer an investment piece.

This Woolovers option looks a bit frumpy with the enormous band at the bottom?

TIA for any leads!

Uniqlo extra fine merino. They are 64.5 cm in the Medium. Handwash but seem fine on the handwash programme on my machine.

AmberNectarine · 26/08/2013 08:38

Was going to recommend either Uniqlo merino or Gap merino.

FloraFinching · 26/08/2013 08:41

another one for uniqlo. i bought a jumper and cardie over the weekend, although I went up a size to L to get a longer fit (am 5'9") - jumper was £20.

Marylou2 · 26/08/2013 10:00

Another vote for Uniqlo merino jumpers. I'm much the same shape as you and they are very flattering and wash well on a cold wool machine wash. Minimal piling etc.

TweenageAngst · 26/08/2013 10:07

I am also a fan of the V-Neck. Uniqlo, Banana Republic and for when I am feeling flush N-Peal

Crutchlow35 · 26/08/2013 13:17

Uniqlo are no good with big boobs (for me anyway). They just don't sit right. That and the fact that an XL is a size 16 is ridiculous.

PretAPorter · 26/08/2013 13:43

Thanks so much for all the suggestions!

Unfortunately the Uniqlo ones don't sit right on me either which is a shame as I love the rust colour they have in this season. I've got the perfect storm of large boobage (30FF) with a long back. The Medium swamps me, the Small is too short and I also get crumpling with both sizes. I might get the rust in the crew neck cardigan style as then I can wear a longer top underneath.

I have had success with slightly longer sweaters in Banana Republic in the past - this is a lovely jumper on for a soft autumn albeit not V neck!

N-Peal are new too me. I like the look of this but the prices are a bit scary!

I got this last week which is lovely - normally cowl style necklines do not help with bosom control but this one is low and long enough so can recommend.

Pepperberry are a constant source of disappointment to me as the jumpers seem to highlight your bosom rather than minimising it!

I'm kind of pinning all my hopes on J Crew's new Regent Street store!

Sorry to crash - what's the uniqlo sizing like? I am an 8, with small rib cage but generous norks? I don't like things to be baggy. XS? S?

FloraFinching · 26/08/2013 14:02

I am a size 12 on top. medium fitted fine but was a tiny bit too short as I am tall with a long body. so i think you would be XS, or S if tall.

cardamomginger · 26/08/2013 14:09

Ta! They look FAB [grin}.

MrsNoodleHead · 26/08/2013 14:16

[http://www.purecollection.com/.Cashmere-Boyfriend-V-Neck-Sweater_LK-L47.htm Pure Collection boyfriend]] but over budget but I've seen a 25% off code somewhere.

MrsNoodleHead · 26/08/2013 14:18

Oh arse.

Link here.

Follyfoot · 26/08/2013 15:18

Do you like this one? I've got it in the blue and light brown, and they are lovely (and very flattering for the larger of chest). Different wool to what you had in mind probably, but really nice all the same.

Crutchlow35 · 26/08/2013 15:50

I received 2 pepperberry sweaters today. They look awful on.

thenightsky · 26/08/2013 16:00

Thanks for the warning about Pepperberry Crutchlow35. The buggers get me every year with their misleading photos. You've reminded to not be tempted.

PretAPorter · 26/08/2013 17:49

Thanks v much for the link MrsNoodleHead, I do like the idea of a slouchy one and love that "I just threw this on look" but often slouchy on me turns baggy/shapeless/ferret smuggler

Follyfoot Thanks v much for the link and there is some really nice Fenn Wright Manson stuff here! That particular one looks tunic length long so good for wearing with skinnies or jeggings but I have quite few tunic jumpers

Has anyone bought from Charles Tywhitt? This one looks a possible but as usual there are crap photos, garment details and not even model height. Really gets my goat when they expect us to order on the basis of an arty photo and returns are not free!

I have just received that Woolovers one you linked to. It is really lovely on. (I'm 5 ft 9 & wanted it long & slouchy & it is). May order the grey too.

LaurieFairyCake · 26/08/2013 17:57

Haunt EBay.

I am giant of nork and yesterday got a v neck 100% cashmere jumper in royal blue for 20 quid.

I can't wait for it to arrive Smile

thepurplepenguin · 26/08/2013 19:37

Cardamom I am an 8, 5'5", with 30DD norks and the XS is plenty big enough for me...

AmberNectarine · 26/08/2013 19:50

I'm big boobed and Uniqlo work for me, but I am also short, so have no long back issues! I am 5'4, 8-10 and wear a S. Why is size 16 = XL so crazy? That tends to be upper limit of high st sizing. Zara XL is about a 12!
